Default Moving to Oklahoma need advise

My husband and I would like to move to the Tulsa area in June of 2009. We have 2 children ages 12 & 15. We both used to work for residential builders until the housing market fell. We both now work for a steel fabrication and erection company he in the field and I in the office. We have gone from having great credit to not so great credit due to the housing taking a dive. We are now renting and have been for the past year. We would like to move to the Broken Arrow area. Does anyone know if the housing market is any better around the Tulsa area? Are they still building homes? Also will it be hard for us to find a place to rent in that area with not so great credit? We do have good references for the time we have rented. Also my husband use to work in the oilfields and would like to know if anyone knows of oilfield companies hiring in that area? We want a better life for our children. I was born in Tulsa but do not have any family left in that area. But we would like to move to give our children a better life. We have lived in a small town in Georgia and really enjoyed it their. Any help would be appreciated.

I am from BA, and have a couple of friends having homes built for them in Broken Arrow as we speak. There is still growth in Broken Arrow, and they are still building.

Thank You so much for the Reply. Do you by chance know the names of any of these home builder companies? I would like to send our resumes to them.

Sure, I will list them out. I know that these builders are currently building lots of homes in Broken Arrow. These are the big 3 that I know about, and I think they are building a good deal of the homes in Broken Arrow right now.

My friend is using Simmons Homes, and he has been very happy with them so far. His home is being built in Fairway Crossing, which has a great location in the "new" part of Broken Arrow and is located on the Broken Arrow Golf and Athletic Club. I don't know your price range or space needs, but you can find whatever you want in Broken Arrow really.

Also, I can help you out a little bit with Broken Arrow. I was born and raised there, and only recently moved to Colorado. However, I will be moving back home in a few years.

The people of Broken Arrow are really great. I am sure you hear that about a lot of places, but Broken Arrow is a very friendly town that continues to see growth and progress. Broken Arrow Public Schools are good, with the only downfall being the size and population problems at the high school level. It is the largest school district and high school in Oklahoma, and the classrooms continue to become more and more populated. I think they have around or over 30 kids per classroom now.

The proximity to Tulsa is a huge benefit for Broken Arrow. You are literally minutes away from pretty much anything you want to do in Tulsa.

There are plenty of opportunities for athletics and other extracurricular activities in Broken Arrow, and I played about every sport under the sun when I was a kid growing up in BA! You can play golf at Forest Ridge (a very nice country club, but public), or at the Broken Arrow Golf and Athletic Club.

While the town itself has nearly 100,000 residents now, it still has a small town feel. I go back several times a year to visit with friends and family, and other than more stuff it has the same feel to it that it always has.

The housing is terrific in Broken Arrow, and you can find a good home in just about any price range. As previously mentioned, they are still building in Broken Arrow but the real estate opportunities are still good in BA. What kind of home are you looking for? Whats your price range? How many square feet do you need? Etc... Again, you can find almost anything you want in Broken Arrow.

I don't know how long it has been since you have lived in the area, but feel free to ask as many questions as you would like and I will help you in whatever way I can.

Thank You for all the info. We are looking to rent for awhile before we actually buy another home. I would love to move to a less populated place, but with the kids I need plenty for them to do. My son is a skateboarder who is sponsered. I saw online recently that Broken Arrow has a new skateboard park. I hope that their are other kids who like to skateboard in town. We don't mind him skateboarding as long as he keeps up the good grades in school. Our oldest daughter isn't into sports to much, she does the usual teenager thing like going to the movies and shopping. Is there a movie theatre in Broken Arrow? How are the rental prices. We need a 3 bedroom 2 bath home nothing fancy. We do have 2 small dogs (daschunds). I would love to just pick up and move right now, but we need to see about one of us landing a job first. Thank you and I look forward to your input.

You might look at Owasso too, it's smaller in size and has been growing like crazy. Here is info on Owasso's new skate park:

Here is the brand new skate park in Broken Arrow:

Skate Park at Nienhuis Park
Located at Nienhuis Park, 3201 N. 9th St, is one of the most popular recreation spots in Broken Arrow. The concrete skate park, is open from dawn to dusk, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The park consists of a large bowl, a street scene area and several walls and ramps to test your ability. Skateboards, bicycles, scooters and roller skates are all welcome to use the facility. Proper use of the facility is posted and a surveillance camera is used to monitor patrons. The park is self-regulated. Protective gear is strongly encouraged.

Thank You, I am so excited that they have all the skate parks for the kids. Now all we need to do is secure a job. I think my husband and I will be taking a trip to the area after christmas. I am so looking forward to it. Maybe we will get some job leads while we are their. Any info on rentals from anyone?
