Default Chicagoan relocating family to Tulsa - Help!

Hi! Life long Chicagoan relocating with family to Tulsa for a great career opportunity. We have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and need helpful information on neighborhoods, toddler activities, etc. Looking to rent 3-4 bedroom house. What do you think of the Midtown area? Any comments and information is appreciated! Thanks!

Midtown is good if you can afford it, which coming from Chicago you likely can. A lot of redevelopment and growth is being seen in and near midtown. I have suggested to others in the past that are moving from a distance; come here, stay and spend some time looking around. Definitely rent at first until you find where best you want to settle. If you're staying in midtown, that means north of 51st and south of 15th. I-44 is going to be undergoing major construction for the next couple of years so this may effect your commute since 57th is on the other side of I-44 from midtown Tulsa. Luckily, even the worst commute in Tulsa is better than the best in most cities.

Thanks - do you think there are some nice 3 BR houses for rent in Midtown? Is it a good neighborhood for families with toddler age kids? I will be working at either 57th Street of Williams Tower - what's the commute like? THANKS!!!

I second Grizzle's comments. Check with www.mcgrawdavissonstewart.com, I know they have some "for lease" properties in our neighborhood.

We have a 3 br house in midtown that may be for lease soon. What is your timeframe? I work at 71st & Sheridan and commute time is less than 20 minutes.

I think you'll do well there. Lifestyle might change a bit but Tulsa isnt really as 'Okie' as some of the smaller towns in OK. Last time I was there we took a drive around various areas and even for a city, folks were still pretty pleasant.
Hope you find the housing you're looking for. Have you checked out realtor.com for rentals? You set the criteria in the search engine and they do the rest. Or....check out dooley's post, it sounds pretty nice, ya never know!

We just relocated here from San Jose, CA and have found that the "nicer neighborhoods" are really affordable compare to the high prices in the Bay Area. We're renting a 3 bd/1ba home near 41st/Yale for what we paid for a 450 sq. ft. cottage in CA. Anyway, we're newlyweds in our early 30's no kids and love our location right now. We both work in South Tulsa, which is more suburban feeling and not our cup of tea right now....maybe when we have kids. But our location right now is an easy commute (15 minutes for me and 5 minutes for my hubby). For you...I would recommend Brookside or Mapleridge or Whiteside (where we are) or Carnegie Area (supposed to have a good elementary school).

From midtown to your location it will be less than 15-20 minutes, on street traffic, depending upon the weather and time of day. I work on 91st/Yale and live at 41st/Yale and it takes anywhere from 12-20 minutes depending upon weather and time of day. WAY better than CA!

You should be able to find a nice midtown home with 3 bds to rent from $900-1500, depending upon the location, ammenities, etc. Check out Craigslist for options. We found ours through Bailey-Forestell Property Management...they're great, very responsive and accomodating. They have some midtown properties listed. Good luck!
