Young People in Tulsa
Considering moving to Tulsa for a few reasons.... mostly job wise. However, just wondering how bad Tulsa is for the 20's population. I know the downtown is quite dead (although supposedly up and coming). The cost of living and spirit of Tulsa are big draws for me, but I'm just afraid I won't have enough to do as I am not looking to settle down in my personal life for another 10 years or so. I'm coming from rural CT so I'm looking for a bit more fun for awhile.
Thank you!

I'm not sure what you mean by "I won't have enough to do as I am not looking to settle down in my personal life."
Tulsa has lots of clubs and cafe's. If you want to eat or drink, you have a really good selection of cuisines (including a couple of the midwests best seafood restaurants) and environments......everything from redneck honkytonks where you can easily lose a paycheck playing pool, to the ballet and the opera. Piano bars, little theater, lots of such things.
There is a strong arts community with two world renown museums.
Tulsa has several venues for performing arts....from the Historic Cains Ballroom to the new BOK Center.
If you prefer spiritual activities, we have a Buddhist temple, a Muslim mosque, more Bible schools than you can count, a strong vibrant Jewish community, several heathen kindreds, some pagan groups, and some wiccan covens.
If you want watersports, we have several lakes within easy commuting distance where you can ski, scuba dive, fish for everything from catfish to trout, jet ski, or sail.
If you hunt, we have everything in the region from squirrel to deer to bigfoot. If you prefer upland game, we have pheasant and quail. If you like water fowl we have ducks, geese all over the place.
If you prefer equestrian, we do everything from dressage to rodeo. Tulsa even has a club where you can "ride to the hounds" complete with english riding jackets.
We just hosted a national BMX race.
We have several Universities in the area if your desire is more education in diverse areas......from basketweaving to petroleum geology to becomeing certified as a Cherokee Language speaker.
If you are reasonably clean and healthy, getting laid is no problem.........
Hang glide? we do that here. hot air balloons? we do that too.
So what kinds of things do you like to do? Tulsa can probably accomodate you.

Great post GP. Lots of good info for another CT person thinking about moving to Tulsa area someday. I was wondering if you knew anything about the local Div II college football programs near Tulsa. I haven't found any that are very nearby. Or, are there any Div III programs in the vicinity?

Only one I know of is NSU in Tahlequah
Rogers State is NAIA Div 1, but no football that I know of.
ORU is a basketball school
TU is going to the GMAC bowl to play against Ball State in Mobile Alabama
We do have a couple of decent Div 1 teams around .........there is one called the Cowboys out of Stillwater and another one called the Sooners out of Norman. They seem to be pretty good on occasion.

Never heard of 'em. Probably because of their strange names. What the heck is a Sooner? The opposite of a Later?
I was looking for the DII and DIII teams for other reasons. I didn't want to start a new thread for what I figured would be a quick answer. Thanks...I thought you would know.
I did watch some of the TU game this weekend. Oh, and since those FLA boys rolled over the Tide. I will surely be rooting for OU again.

Missouri Southern plays out of Joplin; they're D2, as well as Pittsburg (KS) State, East Central State out of Ada, OK, Southeastern Okla State plays out of Durant. UCO (Central Oklahoma) plays out of Edmond (northern suburb of Oklahoma City).
So, yeah, there's plenty of D2 football nearby.

Thank you much, BigOkie. I was mainly looking for DII/III within 30 mnts of Tulsa but it looks like the football teams are just too darn good in the area!
I feel like I'm taking over this thread so I'll back out now since I'm not a "young" person looking for things to do. I'm relegated to the old activities these days. You know, things I can do while sitting and foods I can slurp.

Well Jenks and Tulsa Union are probably better than most D II and DIII teams. I say check them out.

Yes, thanks, I was planning to enjoy watching some of the good local H.S. teams, but I was looking for DII & DIII programs to check them out as I may have a prospect to play for them.
