Default New law going into effect for buying/selling kids clothes and toys

Sent to me by a friend....Thank goodness I don't have little ones right now! I'm trying to figure out if this is all over or just in certain areas/states.

What is your take on the new Law that goes into effect Feb 10th for Selling/Buying Used Childrens Clothing/Toys?

You will no longer be able to place used children's clothes or toys into the "stream of commerce" unless you can prove that they've been tested for lead and pthalates. Those that haven't been tested will be considered hazardous, regardless of whether they actually contain lead. Items manufactured after Feb. 10 will boast a permanent tracking label which will do just that.

There will be no buying or selling items without such proof even on ebay, Craigslist, yard sales, and church/organization consignment sales and sales such as the Just Between Friends" sales in so many cities, etc.

Prices at thrift stores, etc. will be higher and many will simply stop selling used childrens clothing due to the added cost of testing required be done by an independent lab - to ensure it is lead-free. Where does that leave those of us that rely on these places?

Donating items to Goodwill means they have to pay an independent lab to test each item sold for children before they can resell them. How many thrifts stores and consignment stores can afford to pay to have the testing done.

This act could easily triple the amount that many families pay to clothe their kid and will absolutely eliminate the notion of recouping any of the cost of older items through reselling."

What great timing for a new law like this with the economy like it is. Chances are a lot more people, even ones who have never before shopped at any kind of thrift store, will be in need of this option for pre-owned clothes.

Default what a crock!

Dang, they are everywhere, aren't they! Is there really a lobby for children's toys/clothing, aw scratch that, I know the answer.

of course there is.

I can see some haggard mother sitting in a cell next to murderers and rapists. They ask her "Hey, what are you in for...."

Default reselling kids toys and used clothing

I think this law is such crap! Ecspecially with the way the economy is right now. So what are people supposed 2 do if they can't afford 2 go out and buy new things, cuz kids grow each day, so kids are supposed 2 go without? Apparently the ones passing the law have endless supplies of money and can afford to buy everything brand new. Instead of fixing the real problem, which is let's make the stuff right here in the U.S. we have it made in different countries who screw stuff up and we have 2 suffer. As many problems as this world is facing right now and they are worried about hand me downs, tell me this world isn't more jacked up than that!
