Default Moving to Tulsa County, OK

Hey Guys:

I just accepted a job in Tulsa, so my wife and I will be moving out in a couple of weeks. I was looking for a little information about where to live and how much housing is etc.

We live about an hour outside of Philadelphia, PA...so we're looking for a little change of pace. Tulsa itself looks great and the cost of living is reasonable, but we would like more of quaint town feel. We would need an area that has decent backyard too- about .25 acre or more for our dogs.

I'm kinda of a new professional too...so we're not looking to spend tons of money on a house just yet. Is there anywhere in Tulsa County where I can spend about $130-$160K for what I described above?

My wife is a teacher and so we're also wondering how the school districts in Tulsa County (excluding Tulsa City) are?

The Tulsa area seems wonderful and we're so excited to move to OK. It has a small town/homey/country feel but in a decent metro sized area.

Thanks for all of your help.

-Sport

where about will you be working. It will give us a little idea of drive distance and such. I think the community i would go for is the Jenks because it will have the lot size and the small homey village feel you are looking . You should find a very nice place for 150 k. Also do you have school age kids, just to direct you on areas. Good luck and congrats you will enjoy it in Tulsa. I am a native New Yorker who loved my 5 years in Tulsa

Grove isn't too far away. It is to the east. You could get a nice house for the range you are looking at. I think it is a 20-30 min drive depending on where in Grove. Jenks is a a typical suburb.

There are a lot of homes too, around Tulsa pretty inexpensively. I myself have been looking, for possible future relocation too, as well, but most of the people I know are around the OKC area. How close to Tulsa were you thinking about relocating to?

$130-$160 is sufficient for a nice house on a decent sized piece of land.

for a "Quaint town" I would look at the towns of Coweta, Collinsville, Skiatook, Sapulpa, Sand Springs, Pryor, or Okmulgee. Depending on what part of Tulsa you will be going to work in, each are about 30 minutes or less from Tulsa. All are close to good highways that will provide easy access to Tulsa. School districts, by and large, are pretty good. There are a lot of private Christian Schools that also have need of quality teachers, although many pay less than the public system. Some Tulsa schools seem to have gang and gang related problems, but most of the suburban schools are the way you might remember them from 30 years ago.

Just for fun, I ran the Tulsa MLS with the criteria being a maximum of $160,000 with the house lying on between 5 and 15 acres. I know this is more land than what you are asking for, but I was curious.......

It came up with 90 listings with houses ranging in size from 750 sf to 3000 sf and prices ranging from $25,000 to the limit I set.

I think you can find your house without too much problem.

lasomeday, Grove is 90 miles from Tulsa. That would be a long commute!

Wow, I wasn't aware you could get homes for so cheap and with actual large parcels of land like that! This bodes well for myself as if I relocate--although I am not so sure about buying a house right away--I should have some good options for a year or so down the road. I think cities that interest me for the purchase of homes would include most of the suburbs: Sapulpa, Sand Springs, Jenks, Bixby and Broken Arrow. But I am completely a "newbie" when it comes to the Tulsa area. Great information though, nonetheless.

I like Sand Springs, because it's nestled in amongst all of those hills to the West of Tulsa. It also has a VERY low crime index; way below the national average.

That price range would probably buy around a 1,500 ft. or a little bigger home, if that's big enough you.

Right and if I could get a nice home on one of those hills, it should afford me a decent view and, if I am lucky, maybe I could see a bit of downtown off in the distance. I am betting those homes are fairly expensive, however. As in $350k+.
