you can get crime stats from the TPD. It is close to what used to be a really upscale apartment complex, but I don't know what it is like now. I do know they take Section 8 and they have substantial numbers of vacancies. This area is in transition with more of a downward trend. It is difficult to explain without sounding racist.....but here goes. this area has been increasingly occupied by hispanic and asian residents. With the laws preventing the hiring of illegals, a lot of the houses in this area were vacated. that being said, there is still a decent market for fixed up houses, particularly if they are 4 bedroom houses. Immediately south are some nice houses and really nice neighborhoods. I would have no fears for my daughters, the schools are going to be pretty good. But you will find the area is racially diverse. the corner of Mingo and 21st has a WIC store and a OSU street clinic. The corner of Garnett and 21st has a Mexican food Market, a Mexican mall that consists of several small businesses such as cafes, clothing, herbs etc. There is also an Asian food market where you can get live crabs, smoked duck, several varieties of fish, all the Vietnamese, Hmung, Thai, and Chinese noodles, sauces, and condiments you would want.
I lived in that area several years ago and liked the diversity and the area.....people were friendly and I never felt threatened.
