Default What can you tell me about the University of Tulsa?

I had a friend who transferred here on a basketball scholarship full-ride when we were freshmen & I heard she really likes it! I was born in Broken Arrow but have been living in TX ever since. I am considering it for graduate school & would like to see what some of you all know about it?

Every person I have met who goes there really seems to like it.... so I guess that says something lol. Its a small university, but from what I hear they want to keep it that way. Quality over quantity. They have really stepped up the last few years to grow and improve the campus. Lots of new housing, sports and recreational facilities, expanded library, beautification projects etc. with more stuff coming soon. Its become a very nice looking campus. Its a well respected university. Didnt go there myself, so cant offer more than that. :-)

How is the area? Is it a commuter school? Grad-student friendly? Are most of the students from the Tulsa area or OK?

My lawyer transfered from Univerity of Michigan to TU for his JD. Twenty years later he's still in Oklahoma.. Tulsa metro is nearing a million population. so I would say the grad program, accessibility, are very good and the students are from a mixed area but predominately from OK because it is a good school and never far from home. Tulsa folks are friendly. The city is beautiful and upscale. The culture and religious community is diverse. Y'all come visit some time.

The area is...decent. Not the best, not the worst. But its very close to some of the nice areas of town like Cherry Street, and near downtown and Pearl Street. The whole area from TU to the posh mid-town and downtown are slowly melding together and improving. TU used to be a commuter school, but recently they have added a TON of spiffy new, student housing which really looks nice. % of students from Tulsa... I think that info is on their website.

Default Univ of Tulsa and Midtown

Univ of Tulsa is a spread out but well enclosed area. It has strong security quard presence that hovers around cautiously alert towards anyone that looks like they don't belong. Asa result the crime rate is way down. They have done an exceptional job along with the police to secure the area as a tranquil and peacefully laid back area.
My house built in 1925 is two blocks away from the University. It does offer many interesting areas of entertainment to us locals as new play spring forth from imginative minds and are showcased there, t Go other forms of art, and even a film fest. Although I attended Columbia University while living in NYC and loved it I can say that this school has much to offer others.
The University as correctly pointed out is part of the Midtown area which is still under development. Mostly the houses like mine are Art Deco (Tulsa has some of the most beautiful examples of Art Deco Architecture that you will ever see more stunning than the Empire State Building or the Chysler Building in NYC although I still admire them).
15 Street which becomes Cherry Street like in NYC 6th Avenue turns into the Avenue of Americas with no explanation either (probably a real estate developer's idea to get higher rents in both cases), but anyways Cherry Street is mostly Antique Shops (some with great buys but if you enjoy depression glass to 17th Century Oil Paintings in an Ornate Quilded Frame you'll find most everything here from mildedly attractive to the WOW factor. Cherry Street is famous also for its Yellow Brick Road Routine of Gay Bars, Boutiques of Vintage Clothes ,etc. which are more active in the area at night.
It is a more imginative area of Tulsa. There are constant surprises and most of them positive ones. That says a great deal for a city in turmoil, doesn't it?
