Moving to Tulsa area....ANY ADVICE?
Hello all, I am moving to Tulsa area in the next few months with my hubby and 2 sons. I am wanting advice on the best areas to move to. I will be renting and dont know if there are places in that area that would rent for less than 600 a month. I would like a smaller area, well at least a smaller school for my 10 year old and 5 year old. Is this possible? Lol. Anyway, Im looking for an area that is lower on crime, I know that is hard in and around big cities. I am not that familiar with Oklahoma, as I lived there when I was very young, and I am currently in Springfield Missouri, so what i know of Oklahoma, is just casinos lol. Anyway, any advice, input or anything would be MUCH MUCH MUCH appreciated. Thanks all!

$600 for rent will be on the very low end. That will barely get you a one bedroom apartment, let alone a house in an area worth living in. A good guide for rentals in Tulsa is .75 - .80 per square foot. So a typical size 3 bedroom house at 1600 sq. ft. will run you around $1,250.
Regarding the best places to live, all the suburbs are excellent including Owasso, Broken Arrow, Jenks, Bixby, Sapulpa and Sand Springs. Jenks and Owasso have excellent school systems. Good luck!

Tulsa County has the highest property tax rate in OK. Buy in Creek County or Osage County if you don't want high taxes.

For schools I recommend Jenks since you will be moving to the Tulsa area. I haven't heard about Owasso public schools, but Owasso is Oklahoma's fastest growing city, so I imagine there are increasing options as far as new housing developments.

Broken Arrow is a nice safe community centered around families and children of all ages. The Broken Arrow school system is large but very good. There are several elementary schools so it is not overwhelming and BAPS is about to open its first 4th and 5th grade center with plans for a second one soon. I think you will be able to find a good rental home here.
What brings you to Tulsa?

How do the suburbs do with apartments in the 600$ range. Owasso may be the "fastest growing city", but what kind of apartment options does it offer? I think BA has some older apartment complexes that may be more affordable.
However, you might be able to find some very reasonable apartments in the Brookside area near 41st and Peoria. Stay north of I44. Brookside is an up and coming area, but you can still also find some very good bargains apartment wise there too. Plus the schools are good as well.

I lived in a rental house off 41st and Riverside in the early to mid 80s that was reasonably affordable. It was a great little house right across from the River Parks. I doubt it's as affordable as it was then, of course. Then, it was $400 per month. It was also a very safe area.

The best advise is to now lice in Tornado Alley. I was told NW of the city was safest.
