Hi, I have posted on this forum before and it is almost a for sure thing that my family will be moving to Tulsa. So this is what I need to know. My boys play baseball, they have attended schools in Washinton State with a 1,000 attendance. My older son will be a Freshman and would like to play baseball on the school team. He has always made varsity and would really be bummed if he didn't make the team. He is a good ball player but it looks like in most of the good schools (Jenks, BA, Owasso, Booker T.) there are hundreds of kids which means LOTS of competition. So how is the Bixby baseball school team since the school is smaller? Or does anyone have any other suggestions? We don't want to live out in the boonies either because we did that for awhile in Oregon and didn't like it. We will have 5-days to take a trip to the area and we will have to choose a home in that time frame. I do not want to make a mistake in choosing a school district and we don't know anyone there or have any relatives. My boys are 14 and 10. They have played ball since the age of 4. I need references, phone numbers and organizations so I can pinpoint an area before we visit.. Your help would be appreciated.. Less than a week is not much time to find the right area without your help!!! I appreciate any suggestions especially from Coaches and parents of baseball players!!!

We are really looking forward in coming to your town!!! Thanks everybody!!!

Bixby isn't much smaller as far as the school system. Oklahoma has 6 class rankings, 6A being the largest in size. Some of the 6A school systems in the Tulsa area are Jenks, Owasso, Union, Broken Arrow, Sapulpa, Sand Springs for instance. Bixby is 5A, so it's not much smaller so the competition for the baseball team might be just as tough. I believe this past season Bixby had a very good team. Here is a web site that shows the size and rankings that might help you out:

Ranking of High Schools in Oklahoma

Maxpreps has the rankings, you can select by state, by class, etc.:

MaxPreps - America's Source For High School Sports... - Rankings

Here is a map of the school's in the Tulsa Public School system:

If you are interested in the boys going to a smaller school yet want to live in the Tulsa area, perhaps Berryhill might be a good choice:

Berryhill Public Schools

I believe they traditionally have a good baseball team.

Hi Brian,

The web-site says that the grades are 9-12 and the population at the school is only 1200 which is similar to our school here.

Raelyn, I sent you a pm about non-school based baseball leagues and a little more school info, but here are a couple that a coworker recommended:

All Star Sports Complex Registration & Management Software By GOALLINE.ca (for Tulsa and BA)

O'Brien Baseball (closer to Owasso and Collinsville).

As far as sports, you needs to decide if varsity sports is that big a deal in where you want to live. If you want your kid on the varsity team, pick a smaller school district. If you want to live somewhere your whole family will be happy, live in one of the larger districts. I'm sure they have club teams and less competitive leagues in the larger districts.

I understand it is tough but i would say go with Bixby it is a growth area with a smaller but tiny school close to all the south tulsa growth and with a solid school and sports programs. it pains me to say it because they are a huge rival to my BK Comets, however they i think fit your criteria as a school community, and place to grow

This is really great advise and something to consider.. You are right.. baseball is not EVERYTHING and I need to have a talk with my son about his opinion and have other options available. I did talk via phone with someone from an outside baseball league today and he said that there ARE NOT outside baseball programs for ages fourteen and above???

Does anyone have any information that is contrary to this or is he correct in his statement???

Bixby is a 5A school, second largest classification in the state. I wouldn't consider that a "tiny" school.

Hi Brian,

You are right but we are attending a 4A school here in Washington. 5A is not that much bigger. We really like what we are seeing in the Owasso, Bixby areas even though the schools are bigger. If my boys don't make the school team then I guess we will have to go to other options. We just don't want to be out in the boonies. We need to visit and get a "feel" for all these places anyway. I will be printing out these posts (all of them) and making a list as to where we will go when we get there. Keep your eyes open, I will be asking about restaurants, hotels, also. We only have a week when we get there to do many things.
