Glad you're feeling better about everything, Raelyn. We love the River too and walk there all the time. It's an amazing asset and I always try to tell people to check it out.

Union schools are great and they have a lot extracurricular activites to keep your boys busy. Just wait till football season starts! Take the kids to the games for somethng to do on a Friday night. Did you see the Activity Center?

If y'all need a break from the weather, Broken Arrow has good city pools: The Family Aquatic Center at 1400 S. Main (between Houston (81st St. and Washington (91st St.) is good, as is Nienhuis Park Aquatic Facility at 3201 N. 9th (55th and North Lynn). They should be open through Labor day (I think!).

Best of luck!

Yep, they even have the second best marching band in the region (maybe the state)

Thanks for the info. I will keep these places in mind. Well, my trip here started off pretty rocky and emotional for me. It was a culture shock to be sure. Now after a week I am getting used to it and ready to go back to Washington, pack up our stuff and move. I am still really nervous about my boys as I have not seen many kids around especially teenage boys. The ones that I have seen don't dress or act like my son (he is very free-spirited). Hopefully he will fit in. I will feel better when we get moved in and school gets started.

I have a busy, hectic week in store for me and the weather doesn't look any nicer in Washington. It has been 100 degrees there all week as well.

Anyway, thanks again for all the help, direction and you guys were pretty much right on with your analysis and perception of Tulsa... This site has helped a lot...

Yeah, Bixby was my first choice for you. You can always buy a house in Bixby in the future. Bixby is not as rich and stuck up as Jenks.

The difference between Portland and Tulsa is that there are more friendly people and the diversity is different. Tulsa is so much like Portland. Tulsa is probably top ten in places to go on a bike ride in the city in the US. I love it! Plus the tree covered hills. YOU will love the fall foliage! It is so much better than Portlands! Turkey Hill is gorgeous in the fall.

Hi, I did look at Bixby but we could not find a rental house and we were running out of time. Our choices were, Owasso, Bixby and Union areas. We looked at Owasso first (it was too far away for us) and the houses available in Bixby were way too small for us. Sometimes things work out the way they do for a reason and we found a decent home in the Union School District not too far from Jenks.

You are absolutely correct. If we don't like it we can always move when it is time for a purchase... I feel things went pretty well for the most part. I was only there for a week and it went quickly. Rentals go fast and homes are expensive (rentals). We tried for a lease option but it fell through (the owner wanted to sell right away). Anyway, I love the river and we will be spending a lot of our time in the southern part of Tulsa with the rolling hills and river... We have bikes and a bike carrier for the dog... You are right, it does remind me of Portland without the rain and snobby people, LOL. The people are soooo nice in Tulsa and the food is amazing. I think we will like it.

I am back in Washington for the week, packing up and then we will be in Tulsa for good on Saturday... I took one last look at the pine trees today and it looks dry here right now from lack of rain. The grass is brown here, so I think the move won't be too tramatic... Anyway...

Thank you for all the help!!!

The best melt in your mouth steak I ever had in my life was in Tulsa. Forgot the name of the restaurant but it was on the Southside.

Could it have been the charbroiled burger flavored ice cream sundae at Braum's on 71st?

Ewww? Wow.

And syn, there are so many steakhouses on that side of town it would be tough to know.

Did it seem pricey, but worth it? Mahogany's maybe? (51st/Yale)
Seem like an Outback but with less attitude from the staff? Lone Star?
If it was years ago, might it have been behind a Circle K by the Fontana? In that case you might be talking about Rosie's. I miss that place.

No, believe it or not it was actually a chain restaurant. It might have been the black-eyed pea.

I know, I know, chain restaurants are incapable of stellar food. Criticize all you want folks, but that was the best damned steak I ever had in my life. And I'm REALLY picky about my steaks. It was tender, juicy, cooked just perfect, and as tasty a steak as I've ever had.

And I've been to some of the priciest, highest fallutin' steak houses in the DFW area (Ruth's Chris, Bob's Steak and Chophouse, etc.).

It could just be that I got there after they received a really good batch of steaks from their supplier or something. Maybe the cook was having a really good day, or perhaps the management at that particular location are especially good at what they do.. Maybe they saw the Texas plates on our car as we pulled up and said "Let's show those Texans what a REAL steak tastes like, lol."

I don't know; I've only eaten there once. For all I know I could go back there again today and have a steak and not like it.

My wife, who doesn't even like steaks or beef for that matter had a bite. She loved it.

Perhaps McGills? Or maybe Molly Murphy's House of Fine Repute? Oh wait, wrong century!
