I don't blame you. $1200 bucks? I'd rather spend the money on something else. Like a road trip to Colorado.

Haha, I can just see that. I've never been frozen in my car before, but I've been frozen out of it plenty of times, and had to do the "pot of hot water" trick, or climb over the gearshift... because no matter how you're parked, it's always the driver's side that gets iced the worst. It's true, and it's Murphy's Law of Oklahoma Winters.

Culture shock refers to the anxiety and feelings (of surprise, disorientation, uncertainty, confusion, etc.) felt when people have to operate within a different and unknown cultural or social environment, such as a foreign country. It grows out of the difficulties in assimilating the new culture, causing difficulty in knowing what is appropriate and what is not. This is often combined with a dislike for or even disgust (moral or aesthetical) with certain aspects of the new or different culture

THIS IS A JOKE...I GUESS MY DIFFICULTIES WITH THE CULTURE IN TULSA IS MY DISGUST IN THE WAY PEOPLE DRIVE HERE!!! AND I DEFINATELY AM SURPRISED AND ANXIOUS EVERYTIME SOMEONE ALMOST RUNS ME OFF THE ROAD, LOL!!! THERE'S SOME MORE GEORGE CARLIN HUMOR FOR YOU OKCPULSE...

And why is it culture shock? Seems to me like people on the coast know that the middle of the country is different from the coast. So why is it shocking when they move to a place they already expect to be different?

Just thought I'd put a little George Carlin humor into the concept of culture shock

Here you go, Raelyn. Welcome to Oklahoma. This is our truck after one of the ice storms in 07. Pretty cool, eh? Do NOT drive. It is not like driving on snow.

Oh how right you areThe place I used to work had alot of parking options, and believe me I tried them all. I parked every which way there was facing north, facing south, east and west near the building everywhere and everyway I could think of, I worked the overnight shift and it never failed not matter what I came out in the a.m. and lo and behold the drivers side door was frozen every single time. I finally got the bright idea of spraying some defroster in the lock and on the inside of the door where the door meets the body of the car. Believe it or not this worked pretty well even on the worst of days. I now carry a can of defroster in the car all winter. However, take it inside with you when you get out of the car doesn't do any good if the doors are frozen shut and you can't get at it, I know this for a fact!

Then you would definitely hate Texas drivers!!! I've seen drivers in Houston do things they haven't come up with a word for yet.

Each time I drive back to Oklahoma City... and understand us Oklahoma Citians have our fair share of nutjob drivers... it's pleasant to be driving on a six lane freeway where the majority still uses their blinker.

Indeed, many drivers in this part of the country are crazy. They love speed and horsepower. Little regard for safety. My brother-in-law was one of those people. Of course, he had to grow up once his daughter came into this world. No more speeding, so I can only hope that something will change the driving habits of some of these people.

This is why the human race will never see flying cars. Ever.

But I will say this: I'd rather deal with 24 hours of Houston drivers, than just five minutes of Dallas...they learned driving on whole other planet than we did...

OMG, Dallas! Whoever designed their expressway off-ramps was surely a sadist.

Tulsa drivers, well, I learned to drive here so I can't say much. There is a maneuver that my ex (from up North) called the "F you, I'm cutting you off now!" wave. The worst I've ever personally experienced had to be Fort Lauderdale - spontaneous and random U-turns straight out of Miami Vice - or Boston - all those hybrid sub-compacts with dented quarter-panels.

HMMMM, now that's an interesting name for a wave. But I'm curious, what area did your ex come from? Did he like Tulsa other then the drivers?

I do have to admit, we weren't thrilled with the high speed limits or the amount of traffic there, but we just figured it's because we live in a town that's a tad smaller with a population of 15,000.
