Coming to Tulsa for a week for business
Hey there everyone. I'll be in Tulsa for business Sept 13-18. I love sports, historical stuff, good food, pretty much anything interesting. I'll have most of the nights there free - so what do you recomend to see in your city?
Thanks in advance,
G Man

HI Gman, I'm not a Tulsan, but here are a few suggestions.
Gilcrease Museum - The Museum of the Americas
You may like this museum if it fits into your schedule. I'm not sure how late it's open, but I'd guess the hours are on that website. You'll enjoy it since you are interested in history~especially if you like Western history.
Philbrook.org
We didn't get to stop at the one above, but it's number one on the list when we return to Tulsa.
If you like aquariums, there is a very nice on in Jenks.
You may want to check if there are any events at the Bok Center that you would be interested in.
BOK Center
Good luck and have a wonderful time.

gman,
the Rock ‘n’ Ribs Festival is at the BOK center sept 17-20,
this is actually on the street just outside of the BOK arena downtown.
we have a couple of nice casinos, the new Hard Rock casino, is in Catoosa just a bit east of Tulsa on I-44, and River Spirit at 81st & Riverside, just a couple of miles from River Spirit, is the Riverwalk in Jenks, shops, bars & restaurants.
do you know what area of town you will be staying, maybe I can suggest some food.

looks like you are at 81st & Mingo, which is roughly 15 miles from downtown, but all highway.
as far as food, you will be about a mile from food row, 71st street from memorial to garnett, nothing original, just a bunch of chain places, good, but nothing you yhavent seen.
Ill keep my eye out for stuff to suggest
BTW, I have lots of family near Cincinatti (Hamilton, Fairfield)

Yeah, that's kinda nowhere near downtown, but a nice area. If you were a resident I would recommend a great candidate for city council down there (shameless plug)
You have every type of food but almost entirely regional/national chains like mentioned.

on that strip, there is a place that is local, and good.
Rons Hamburger and Chili, on 71st & Mingo, just a mile down from where you will be. (1 mile north)
I have an out of town rule, I will not eat anywhere, if I have it in my town.
So here is a list of some good local stuff:
* The Spudder, a steakhouse, very good and reasonabaly priced, you will have to ask about location, its not on a main street, but just off of a main street.
* Shilohs - good ol down home country style food, all bread products made by hand, including the hamburger buns, not far from your hotel, 51st street, between garnett & 129th e ave.
*stop at any Braums you see, locations all over town, mainly ice cream, but good burgers too.
*plenty of good BBQ, like I said, my family is from your part of Ohio, and trust me, you dont know good BBQ, try Billy Sims BBQ at 51st & Sheridan, there is one in Broken Arrow also, thats close to you. You may like the place, Billy Simms was a Heisman trophy running back from Oklahoma Sooners, and played for the Detroit Lions, there is alot of football memorabilia there.
* There is a new "Toby Keiths, I love this bar & grill" at the Hard Rock casino, im not a fan of country music, but the food is good.
*Steak Stuffers USA, at 51st & memorial, the closest thing to a real philly steak sammich as Ive had outside of Philidelphia.
that should fill you up for a while

Bonefish Grill is great at 71st and Garnett. I would also suggest Pei Wei at the same intersection.

Never been to Pei Wei, but I was quite underwhelmed at Bonefish. It's a franchise as well.
