Edmond has the same problem with Oklahoma City. It wan't too long ago that there was noticeable separation between Tulsa and Broken Arrow. Broken Arrow used to be miles from Tulsa so having the same street names did not matter. As residential and commercial development moved closer to Broken Arrow, the gap closed. At least Broken Arrow posts the Tulsa streets under the Broken Arrow name. I don't see it as a big deal. It would be a huge burden on business owners to change street names.

swake is on a distinguished road
And for the most part, only one city changes the names of major streets. Your problem is with Broken Arrow specifically. Street names and numbers on major streets for the most part remain the same in all the other suburbs.

From what I see on a map...

Sapulpa changes street names
Glenpool changes many north/south street names.
Jenks has different names
Sand Springs changes some names

Bixby and Owasso keep Tulsa numbers

CORRECTION: I MEANT TO SAY 10 TO 20 MILES OVER THE SPEED LIMIT.

I DO drive the speed-limit because where I come from the police department actually patrols the highways and people get tickets... so I have grown accustomed to following the laws...something that many folks here in this part of the country DO NOT do.

So please do not judge me when you don't know me or have never driven with me. The people that are flipping me off and racing around me are usually going 10 to 20+ miles an hour. So it isn't me that is doing something wrong it is THEM. I refuse to be blamed for lack of common sense on the part of law-breakers and carelessness that causes accidents. Look around sometime at all the cars that are on the road wrecked and taped with duct tape. Don't get me started here.... I have plenty of driving experience and places that I have been to as a comparison.

And maybe Tulsa isn't the worst place to drive (I never said that) but it doesn't excuse the drivers that are being foolish and wreckless.... And yes swake, you did offend me by your comment. The driving problem here is serious and I am only trying to share a concern that may save someone's life if someone would actually listen to what I am saying and make some changes. Your comment shows that you possible do not care.. That is really sad. My husband works in a hospital and he says there are are lot of ambulances pulling up on a daily basis with accident victims.

The street thing doesn't bother me. I usually just do a map on the computer before I go anywhere and haven't had a problem finding places. The traffic thing is frustrating though.

Are we not off topic here? I wasn't posting about street names and signs. I was posting on traffic. Which reminds me, I went by a bad accident on the 51 today which involved the off/on ramp exchange.. I actually followed both ambulances to the hospital. Also heard about a 23-year old who was going too fast on the Turnpike and drove his car off the rode. He is no deceased.. My point with this thread is people need to PAY ATTENTION AND SLOW DOWN AROUND HERE!!! My gosh are people idiots or what??? I have never seen/heard of such insanity. And please...for those who always come back with "you need to travel more" or "it is worse in NYC, ect.", I don't care about those places. I care about the safety here, for my family and my teenage boy who is getting ready to get his license. I am just a very concerned mother. So please..cut me some slack with the comments and pass this on to your friends and relatives... TAKE IT EASY ON THE ROADS!!!

Look at the inflammatory nature of the subject of your post and ask yourself this question: if you were native to a place and an outsider said this to you, how would YOU react.

You're generalizing ALL Tulsans driving based on what an idiotic few does. You lived in a rural setting in the recent past. You've moved to an urbanized setting. We pointed out that in other urbanized settings, driving is worse. So, unfortunately, I won't cut you any slack on generalizing how we all drive.

We call it "culling the herd" and the kid should be up for a Darwin award. Hopefully he hadn't had a chance to reproduce (pass his "stupid" gene along to future generations).

If you feel the need for speed, then indulge.....absent other methods of natural selection, Darwin would approve.

If you feel the need to speed than that is your business but do it on a raceway. At least you would make money that way. Or move to Germany. Don't endanger innocent lives with your selfish indulging.. This is just ignorant stupidity. I am sorry I have no tolerance for people who don't give a c--- about other human beings. The truth about the kid was he probably had loved ones who are suffering right now.. My point made.

No I am NOT saying that every single driver is an idiot. You didn't read my entire post if you took it that way. And I have been a native in places where people say things that are truthful. For instance I lived in Portland for a long time and many people would moan and groan about the rain. I didn't get mad at them for not liking the rain.. It is their right to not like it. I didn't get offended because to say it does not rain in Portland is silly. And as far as an urbanized setting I have lived in Southern cal. Pretty urbanized wouldn't you say? Tulsa drivers are worse.. I just think the driving here is insane and people drive stupid. It is a truthful statement BigOkie.. I didn't say everyone did or even said you did so don't take it personal (unless you drive like an idiot too). Sometimes the truth hurts and you need to stop defending something that is wrong just because you live there.

Sorry to offend anyone but hopefully people will be thinking before they get behind the wheel and either kill their kids, someone else's kids or someone's mother. There is just no need for some of the things that take place on the highways... And trust me, I would say these things no matter where I lived.
