My honest opinion: Tulsans are the worst drivers i have seen!!
Hi, most of you know me as Raelyn but I had to change my username when I was unable to sign on with my new email address. As you know I have made this journey from Washington State to Tulsa and have now lived here for almost one month.
My evaluation.. the drivers here are horrible!!! No offense to the few of you who drive well and respect others on the road.. so please DO NOT TAKE OFFENSE. By the way, I truly appreciate the occasional turn signal when someone is coming into my lane. LOL...
Anyway, not that I am a pro at driving or anything but I can tell you this. I have lived in five states now and visited many others and Tulsa is the worst. Even Southern California with the six lane freeways is mild compared to highway traffic here!!
Inconsiderate, rude, obnoxious and an accident waiting to happen is what comes to mind when I think about the drivers here. Listen to this... Last night while driving down Sheridan we were in the left hand lane and some lady started heading straight into our vehicle!!! It was a good thing that we were looking because if my husband wouldn't have quickly dodged her we would have been hit on the passenger side!!! My fifteen year old son was sitting on that side. We think she was on drugs or something...
And the freeways.. very scary and un-nerving to say the least. Someone is always right up my rear-end and that makes me very upset. I am just not used to this. Washington/Oregon drivers are very laid-back and polite for the most part. I have been flipped off more in the last month in Tulsa than my entire life time of driving (which has been a long time).
And why is everyone in such a hurry? It cracks me up that they speed by me, flip me off then sit at the stop light right next to me. Where are they going in Tulsa of all places??? Is there somewhere (anywhere) that I am missing that is worth the rush, especially in rush hour???
Anyway, enough of my complaining. I guess I'll just hang out in the right lane and let then pass, honk, toss out their angry insults and flip me off while I enjoy my music and my laid back lifestyle. Life is just not worth the rush.. I left that years ago in Southern California..
Hopefully.. this thread will speak to those of you who take part in this insanity called "an accident waiting to happen" and you won't be caught up in one. Hopefully, if you have been one of these drivers who speeds excessively, doesn't use turn signals, cuts people off and then rudely flips them off when they are minding their own business you will re-think your driving habits and stop the insanity. If I can prevent one accident this post will be worth it. I now pray every time I get in my car.
PS... Maybe they don't like my Washington Plates or my Washington State Huskies sticker

No offense taken Raelyn I moved here 18 months ago from Milwaukee,WI and was shocked when my auto insurance policy doubled. After about 2 days here, I knew why. On the other side, it must be noted that Tulsa drivers, while crazy a times, have been among the most courteous I've ever seen. I can;t even count how many times somone has slowed or stopped on a very busy street, in order to let me get in. While cycling, countless times drivers have stopped to let me cross the busy street to get to the bike path, or been waved on to go thru a crowded intersection.
So yes, while I've seen driving that would qualify as dangerous, or even reckless, I've seen just as many, if not more "Random Acts of Kindness"

It has nothing to do with your Washington State Huskies sticker, OU beat them down every time they played! In fact OU beat down just about every team in the nation. Actually Tulsa has some of the best/cordial drivers in the US. Don't believe me, go live in Dallas for a few years.

Washington state has a team? Who knew?
Concerning drivers, I don't know what to say. All I know is I let folks cut in, I don't impede speeders......that may change once I get my drivers license back.......right now I am hesitant to pass an Amish hot rod.
Tell you what, you put a sign on your window that says "It's Me!" and I will be courteous.

I was joking about the Washington State thing LOL. I am not a Huskies fan since I have lived primarily by UCLA and the Huskers and they have much better teams (Nebraska used to anyway). I am just being honest with the traffic thing and honestly I haven't had one act of kindness happen since I have moved here. Hopefully someone will eventually prove me wrong. After almost being hit last night my tail feathers are a bit ruffled. I have never lived in Dallas so I wouldn't know about the traffic there.
Remember, I said not to take my comments personally...I was just hoping to make a few people aware of traffic safety when there are hundreds of teen-agers learning to drive. On the other hand there are a lot of nice people in Tulsa...

I tend to agree with the OP. I always joke around that there must be a finish line with a trophy somewhere that I don't know about. It seems like there is always a race to get to the next bumper .

I know you were joking about the bumper stickers, but when I read your post I was thinking that you need to remove your bumper sticker that says, "Oklahoma sux".
The fact that you haven't changed your license plates yet is kind of ironic. Just yesterday DH and I were talking about vandalisms/car thefts, etc. in Tulsa. He said the very first thing we'd do is change our license plates so we don't stick out as a target and someone new and disoriented.
I dunno. Maybe they don't mind people from So. Dak. cause when we were down there, people seemed to be polite drivers and get out of our way to let us in when we messed up and were in the wrong lane. Either they were being polite or they decided they need to get out of the way for the out of staters who don't know how to drive.
