Non-chain restaurants in Tulsa area?
My teenage son spent some time in Denver this summer, and came home wanting me to take him to restaurants that aren't chain restaurants. We live in South Broken Arrow, but I'm willing to drive a distance if the food is good enough.
Any recommendations?

Los Cabos in Broken Arrow is not a chain restaurant and is really good. It is locally owned.

Cancun @ approx 4th and Lewis Ave. Great Mexican food and reasonable prices with large portions.

Downtown Tulsa actually has some really good restaurants now. Take him to El Guapo for Mexican...it is really good. There is also an Irish Pub (restaurant) down there just around the corner from El Guapo...can't think of the name though. Love Los Cabos too - like the other person said!
If you want to travel 15 minutes straight up 169 North to Owasso there is a Pizza restaurant called Arris' Pizza (in the strip center by Cracker Barrel and Delta Cafe) - it is Greek, but you can get any kind of pizza you like - we order one with Gyro meat on it - it is wonderful!!! Also, go over the mall area off of 96th (there is a Belk, OldNavy, Target over there) and go to Baja Jack's Burrito Shack!! They have great, fresh and inexpensive Mexican. Most of the menu is $5 for great quality food - we like the pulled pork and the fish tacos.
You should be able to look these up on the internet and map them. All are easy to find though. Most places you are looking for will be in Tulsa - Cherry Street area (15th and Utica) or Downtown. Good Luck and hope you and your son enjoy!!!

Would that irish pub be McNellies? If so I can vouch they have great burgers and an amazing beer selection, for the adults of course! Also, try The Brook off Peoria and 35th, I always try to go there when I'm up in T-town.

Tulsa has no great Mexican food restaurants, don't waste your time. I'm sure that there is a hole in wall somewhere that is great, I just haven't found it. Abuelos is the best that I've had, the rest were meh.
Best bet is a good steakhouse, Jamils, Polo Grill, Mahogany, Fleming's, etc.
Wild Fork in Utica Square is VERY good.
Lanna Thai is very good Thai food. Thai Garden in BA is also good.
2nd for McNellies also Lola's at the Bowery is very unique and downtown.

If you're willing to drive a little bit, try out Dink's BBQ in Bartlesville. Some of the best tasting stuff you'll ever put in your mouth.

I've had pretty good Mexican food......but no real Tex mex or New Mex.......
talking about Mexican Food as though it is a common thing across the country is absurd. Southern, cosatl Mexican food, with lots of fruit and fish is a far cry from Monterrey style which is a far cry from Laredo style which is a far cry from Tijuana style.....
It's like complaining that Chicago style Pizza doesn't meet the standards for San Francisco sourdough.

Savastano's in Bixby, near the new Spirit Center is great Chicago Style pizza/ sports pub! I ate there for lunch the other day and was impressed with their pizza -- I spent a few years in Chicago, so I really appreciated it!
I guess the Rib Crib is a chain... but oh my I enjoyed that too!

I've never tried Little Mexico restaurant, but their TV commercial concerns me since their theme song is sung to the tune of "La Cucaracha."
I enjoy Tijuana at 80th and Memorial.
