Default Tulsa to rehire 21 officers

Good news Tulsa I just heard on the news that the 18 officers that were let go will now be rehired. From what I understand, and mind you I just caught part of it, stimulus money was granted to rehire the officers. While I think that is wonderful news for Tulsa I must wonder why that had not been looked into prior to laying them off. After all the heat that the City of Tulsa got (I admit I was one of them) and there were many, it seems that The City got busy and did what they should have done at the start. Still I think it is great news.

Sorry In the title I said 21 and I meant 18. I was just so happy I lost my mind for a second.

Fenderman is on a distinguished road
One step in a positive direction.I hope more steps are to come.

Now re-instate the remaining 3 officers, the Helicopter program, and the Mounted Patrols and we will be back to square One.

I agree with you 100% on that. I think the citizens need to keep the heat on, and maybe the city will find the money to bring them back. Although I think it is too late for the mounted patrol the horses were sold to Hillcrest and will be donated to a couple of worthy causes. Or that was my understanding correct me if I am wrong. 21 officers may not be alot to some, but to Tulsa it seems like laying off 121 we need all the polce we can get.

OH, that is wonderful news. Thank you for sharing it with us, Tookey!!! I was wondering what they could possibly be thinking. It sounds like the fact that many citizens voiced their opinion may have had a huge effect on this outcome.

As was reported last week, the city had to get permission to use the stimulus money to keep the 18 officers. It was originally granted to hire 18 additional officers. The TARP money people had to discuss it and meet in order to divert disbursement from new hires to retention.
