Boycott Downtown Tulsa
Maybe we should boycott downtown Tulsa until the city government gives us the properly sized and equipped Police Force. I'll lead the the way with a one man boycott. Drive to Bixby and Broken Arrow for shopping.

How many people actually shop downtown, anyways? Not many, and what shops are there tend to be locally owned as opposed to big chains. We should want local businesses to thrive.

I like downtown and go there often. Lunches are good, clubs are fun......Never felt less than safe.

This is just stupid. People have such a negative view on downtown in regards to safety I am at the point of laughter everytime it comes up. I have never once felt unsafe while walking around downtown. The biggest issue is that much of it remains empty. Fortunately this is slowly beginning to change. What excites me the most about downtown's current growth is that most of the businesses going in are primarily local and not chain. I know the chains are what mostly bring people in, but our community strives on those that take a chance and work to improve it. Instead of boycotting downtown, how about you go down there and support those business owners that are taking a chance duing a rough economic time. Just because there are less cops than before does not necessarily make one part of the city safer than the other. I wish people would get past their ignorance and see areas like downtown as they really are, a safe and growing urban core. Unfortuantely this mindset in Tulsa is going to take awhile to reverse.

I would not walk around downtown alone after business hours, and I don't think I would walk around the outskirts alone at any time. It may not be as "Omg! Dangerous!" as some people think it is, but there are times and areas where you stand a good chance of being harassed.

I dont see how "boycotting downtown" and a "properly sized police force" are even connected? And its certainly true that shopping in BA and Bixby instead of downtown, or anywhere in Tulsa, would only lessen the amount of city taxes available for more police if we chose to have more. Plus, having any part of the city improve and grow, especially a downtown like ours, can only be a positive thing for the cities; economy, its tax collection potential, attractiveness, jobs growth, and yes even crime reduction. Downtowns rebirth is seeing the arrival of a lot of new jobs. I know a lot of people who work for those companies. I don't see how hurting them is going to get you any more police, nor do I see why you would want to single that part of town out? If you really wanted to get heard and have an impact you would boycott the 71st corridor. But frankly I dont think boycotting and hurting businesses is the way to get more police.

Oh who are you kidding.... you obviously have never been in downtown Tulsa, anyway, or you would know, there is no shopping there to boycott.
Gov't offices, an arena, ball park and a bunch of vacant buildings, but shopping???
I think that left 40 years ago, (when people started driving cars everywhere and needed parking) your a bit late.

I know some people who picked up wine from the wine shop, I've gotten jewelry from spexton and clothes from dwelling spaces, etc.
There isn't much but what is here opened in the last 5 years or so.
