They copied everything down to the Louisiana country theme song. How is this legal?

Good artists copy, great artists steal. Or something like that

I'm not into vampire things so I don't plan on watching it and I only ever watched one ep of True Blood. That said "The Gates" looks like it's more focused on some kind of suburban gated community with vampires whereas, what I saw in that one episode, "True Blood" was more blue-collar or rural.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't have HBO, and though I'm not a big fan of Vampire themed programs, I have wanted to see True Blood. Guess, I'll get to see it after all, just with different actors.

Vampire-themes are all the rage. I doubt that it can be the same as true blood. It almost looks like it may have a "lighter" edge to it. I will be recording it and giving it a look.

The Gates: True Blood meets Desperate Housewives kind of got a Wisteria Lane vibe from the trailers)

shows are copied all of the time (Dancing w/ the Stars vs So You Think You Can Dance, for example). you can't copyright an idea and vamps are a popular idea right now.

The Gates doesn't strike me as "must see TV" and I don't see it lasting that long. hopefully it will be the first sign that the vampire genre isn't long lasting

Yeah, this is a good description of the vibe the commercials give.

I am interested in vampire movies/shows although many of them are too awful even for me. This may be good but I still might not like it as I don't care for Housewives.
As for the rip off - half our shows if not more are direct copies of British shows so......

I think their adaptions moreso than direct copies. I believe they buy the rights to create an Americanized version oversees.
