Two words: Suspend Disbelief
In the world of filmaking, if you make things too easy for the Protagonist (i.e. finding guns and ammo everywhere) you will lose some of that drama and thrill.
I think the final straw on its silliness was when I heard one of the characters say France was the last country to fall. Europe would be the first place to fall, LOL.
Why? Europe's full of castles that were explicitly designed to keep out invaders. If survivors holed up in a few of those with enough supplies they could probably last a long time. And besides, I don't think the CDC doctor said that France was the last country to fall, just that the CDC-equivalent (the Pasteur Institute) were the last scientists he had contact with.
I just read something about the actor who plays Rick, I didn't realize he is a british actor who was in that movie "Love Actually" as a guy in love with Keira Knightly's married character. Apparently he was asked to lose weight and looks a bit different. I never picked up any hint of british accent, often actors let a sound slip here or there, but his southern US sounded good to me, of course I'm not southern so I wouldn't really know.
Funny you mention that - i caught a hint of an accent during one of rick's lines in the season finale. I didnt think anything of it until just now.

A world where zombies were real could very well be a world where there weren't without enough guns to go around, it's not supposed to be reality, it's zombies, come on!
People who can't suspend their belief just shouldn't watch, it will make them miserable.
Some of you take your television way too seriously. You are nitpicking at everything. Its a zombie show...relax
