Carl isn't evil, at least not yet, but he is psychologically messed up. He's done and seen some horrific things, and his dad hasn't been there to help him through them. His dad is just as damaged. Rick needs to get himself together and be a dad before it's too late.
The funny thing is that Carl isn't messed up. His actions and decisions are completely rational. If anything he might be the LEAST messed up of the group.
Imagine some 12yo kid on the frontier having to shoot wild animals, watch out for rustlers, Indians etc. that's what Carl is.
If someone wants to cite an example of Carl being messed up (and Lori isn't that example), like talking to the phone, hearing voices etc. then I'm all ears.
I have no issues with Carl's behavior up until now. The show may want us to believe he shot the kid in cold blood just after the attack on the prison but I maintain that kid wasn't putting his gun down fast enough. He also wanted to pick up the hitchhiker. He just agrees and disagrees with the actions rick, herschel and the others want to take at any given time just like any person would.

I completely agree. Carl has been forced to grow up and at every turn has made tough and difficult decisions that the adults have struggled with making. Killing zombie Shane, shooting Lori, shooting the kid during the Governor's raid on the prison...tough decisions. But in the episode where Rick, Michonne and Carl go back to their town for weapons I loved that Morgan told Carl to "never be sorry" for doing what he needs to do.
Forget Carl. The real question is who is Michonne going to hook up with: Rick or Daryl. I vote for Daryl.
Or someone else.....hint hint.....but the TV series is a lot more sensitive than the graphic novels so probably Rick.
There is just so much different in the TV series than the graphic novels. If you are a fan, go to amazon and you can buy compendium 1 and 2 for <$30. The TV series is about covered compendium 1 (issues 1-48 or so).
The novels are more *adult* where they don't have to worry about people getting bent out of shape over various character interactions.
Is it just me or does Carl say "I had to", "I have to", "did what I had to do" an awful lot? Does that mean anything?
I too think he's creepy. A product of his time, certainly, but creepy nonetheless.
