Okay, so here is what I think of this finale. Not great, but not completely horrible. I was pleasantly surprised at how cautious Ricks group was going into terminus. Glenns group just walked right in without a care in the world. So points there. I was irritated when Rick just lost it at the site of the pocket watch. Put the whole group in danger by doing that.
Yep, not a smooth move there.

I noticed that emphasis, too, which also ties in to what is probably happening at Terminus.

The only thing I wonder about at Terminus is what kind of BBQ sauce do they use on that good looking meat? Memphis Style Sweet Red, Eastern NC Red Pepper & Vinegar or a South Carolina style Mustard base sauce. Georgia is home to all three styles. Probably most popular in those parts is a Memphis Style. But I guess it also depends what kind of ingrediants they can get their hands on.
I was hoping Carl would have killed his attacker, but I understand why the writers didn't go there. That scene had my blood boiling. I tell ya, I would have gone bat**** crazy and done exactly what Rick did. Man that was a hard scene to watch.
Do you, or anyone else, get the feeling that AMC censors may have stepped in and softened that scene up a bit?
It was like it was dancing around "Hey, this guy is about to rape Carl" without ever pulling the trigger to confirm that was what was really what was about to happen. I kept expecting the guy on top of him to do SOMETHING that removed any doubt.. He was real close to his ear.. And it looked like he was just about to stick his tongue in his ear or something, but.. Pulled back.. And.. It felt like right in that sequence there was an unusual cut.
They didn't have to make it patently obvious.. But.. A small comment, or a small thing like if he had licked Carl's ear.. Would remove any doubt about what was about to happen.. "What's your name? Carl? You got a real purdy mouth, Carl"
As it stood.. The reaction from Rick seemed excessive for what the guy actually did... Which was basically nothing more than pin Carl to the ground. Maybe I missed part of it or something.. Have to rewatch the episode again and see if, on a second viewing, there's more detail that I just missed the first time around.

Oh good grief, the boy was being raped! What the hell more do you want?!
It's painfully obvious that many of you have no appreciation or understanding of the SUBTLETIES of this show. It is not about zombies. It's not about violence or blood or guts and gore. It's about HUMAN SURVIVAL.
Some of the comments on here are quite disturbing.
I hope Beth makes it. Her character is unique in that she doesn't have some stand out quality like the other women but is so detached and shell shocked sometimes. Shes not a samurai bad ass, she's not a stone cold killer who will pull the trigger to help "the greater good", she's not a plucky lesbian or a warrior girl with tight shorts or a love bird. By not bringing a defining overall character stamp she is refreshing. Heck, she doesn't even get to be the damsel in distress because her own sister doesn't ask about her and Darryl can't waste a few words describing what happened to her.

So glad that Daryl found Rick, Carl and Michonne. That made me quite happy. Hopefully Carol Tyrese and Judith will be reunited with them...of course NOT at Terminus...unless Rick and group takes it over.

Agree, but then I thought, how should he have handled that moment considering they, Rick's group, was going to eat food that may have been contaminated with something. Was there going to be a clear moment that would have giving them a better way out, I'm not sure there was. But yes, I too thought, not the best way to handle the situation. So, I agree, but wonder.
I think they had a difficult time translating this part of the comic to tv series, the idea of the group buying into to this who sanctuary thing made even less sense than most every other thing we've let go because we know it's not real life. written on comic book pages, I can see it being believable to a degree, but when you get to see the people in the flesh and give them personalities, it's a lot less fathomable to believe Michonne, Rick, Glenn, or many would have so blindly walked into that kind of trap.
I realize I am guilty by association for just accepting the lack of accountability of the writers for getting away with some of what they're producing, but hey, I doubt I could do a better job at what they do, I imagine they regret letting the some of the original writer/s go from the team. They know we'll be right back on the band wagon come next season. Am I as excited as I was about the show at the beginning of season 4, not in the least, but I'm still on board, for now.

I so don't need to see the actual act to understand, I rather not see it, thank you very much and even if the intent of rape wasn't there, the intent of serious harm was. The group leader made it clear that they were going to die, so if all Rick thought was that his son was about to be killed, his actions were very much warranted.
What do you call the scene where Carl was about to get treated like a Penn State toy by the guy in Joe's gang? The dude was acting like the scene with Ned Beatty in "Deliverance".
Yeah, but that's the point, the writers didn't "allow" it to happen. That was definitely a big part of why the Lizzie storyline ending shocked me so much. I don't know the specific FCC rules Newsboy mentioned, but I know it's just well known that you don't usually see scenes like that with children, babies, etc. You usually just think to yourself, Well, the writers aren't going to go there, it wouldn't be acceptable to most of the audience. It was really disturbing me to watch as far as they did go with Carl.

If I didn't know the storyline from the comics.. I don't think I would have thought he was going to be raped. Not that you have to beat someone over the head.. Subtlety is fine, but you can also reach a point where you're so subtle that your point is missed. Based on the subject matter, it's certainly not something that you'd overdo, but it's also something where you want it very clear what was about to happen if it's going to be a part of the characters development.
He certainly wasn't 'being raped' as you said. The fact that it might have come to pass was mildly, IMO, implied. Based on viewing the episode once.. It also looked like a more forceful implication of that was cut out of the scene.
