First of all when did Meri lose her job?

Then I have another question that maybe someone can answer. I know Kody and Meri are legally married, I am assuming marriage license and all, but did he get a marriage license with the other 3 or were they just married by their church with no marriage license? If there is not marriage license then is Kody really married to 4 women or are they only married in the eyes of the church?

I couldn't really understand why they decided to go world wide with this, surely they knew the would be opening themselves up for all that has occured? They seem to be a pretty cohesive family but how in the world does Kody manage to keep 4 women happy? I cannot fathom sharing my husband and not being insanely jealous.

Meri lost her job right before the CNN and Oprah appearances. You cannot get a marriage license with more than one person in the U.S. or marry another person whilst still married to another person. It is Bigamy which is really the charge that this family has to be more concerned with. Polygamy in of itself is not easy to prosecute but Bigamy can be. They are seen as married in their church but not in any other way.

Their explanation for participating in the show is to educate the World about Polygamy and stop hiding it. That has pretty much backfired and it can't hurt to get checks from TLC with all their money problems.

I also cannot understand sharing my husband. I suppose if my only interest was in reproducing and not falling head over heels for my dh then it would probably not be a big deal. It just seems awkward at times on the show with who Kody is sleeping with, going on a date with, celebrating an Anniversary, etc. It just seems like too much work.

Kody sure looks older than 43. I was shocked at that.

I don't know how he can find the time to actually work.

thanks, other than seeing it on here, last night was the first time I had heard of Meri losing her job.

Okay so if there is no state issued marriage license for anyone other than Kody and Meri, how can they prosecute? I guess naive me just always though bigamy was when a man or women married one person, then obatined a second marriage license to marry another person. I am just having a hard time comprehending how they can actually charge them with anything unless they fradulently obtained marriage licenses from the state for the other 3 marriages. Really in the eyes of man, Kody has 1 wife and 3 girlfriends, not illegal.

I agree their thinking that exposing poligamy would open the world's eyes was naive, I can understand not wanting to live in secret, constantly having to hide things but still to not think there would be reprecussions was naive on their part.

No offense, but that's not true. In the state of Utah bigamy is defined as either marrying more than one person OR cohabitating with more than man/woman and purporting that they are your spouse.

76-7-101. Bigamy -- Defense.
(1) A person is guilty of bigamy when, knowing he has a husband or wife or knowing the other person has a husband or wife, the person purports to marry another person or cohabits with another person.

Since they purport that they are married and cohabitate (besides Robin), it is considered bigamy in the state of Utah.

I didn't think the state would actually prosecute them, there are a lot of families like the Browns in Utah and it would really open a can of worms that the state doesn't want to deal with. They were pretty much forced to investigate, though. When you break the law on national TV and the police don't do anything about it that doesn't give them the best reputation.

I did a quick look this morning for the post but didn't see it.
You figure Cody technically is only married to one; so his legal residence would be with Meri. The other women I assume live in what would be legal apartments; what I don't understand is if the wives/kids take his last name legally; I'm also unclear if he's listed on the birth certificates. They could apply for state services if the wives aren't bringing in enough money for that size household.
