How was Utah on their back? They broke state law on national TV, I think the state of Utah was put into the position where they had to, at a minimum, open up an investigation. They never filed any formal charges and Kody was never in any actual trouble. Of course, they blew the entire situation out of proportion and scared their children in the process for no other reason than the TV cameras. They are the ones to blame.

I read that Kate Plus 8 was getting $75,000 per episode. If these folks are getting paid, why was one of the wives crying last night because of not having a job and not being able to pay bills?

Teenagers (I have had 4) are next to impossible to deal with! I think these folks should have thought about that before they had all those kids. Yes, those cute babies do turn into teenagers...I know.

Cody seems oblivious to those kids, sometimes. I hope the mom with the depressed teenager will get him some help. From the looks of it, maybe a few of those kids could use some help. Seriously, I hope that isn't against their religion.

After viewing their lifestyle, it looks to me like all the worst things about marriage, added with a bunch of other women, all that backbiting...those wives look basically like single Mothers now, with Cody dropping in when he feels like it, or whatever his "scheduled" day is. That would drive me crazy. And then, Robyn, with all her opinions about what kids who are not even hers, should be doing...I would give her a smack down, good thing I am not a sister wife.

I agree.
Truthfully, i've never been clear as to how Utah was handling the situation but i've always had the sense that Kody was overreacting.
And like Truly's mother said (the 3rd wife), they shouldn't be making choices out of fear.
She's so right.
Now that i've learned from you about how Utah was handling this i'm even more upset because it's even more clear that they did not need to make the move to Vegas.

Also, as much as Kody likes to think of himself as a good and Godly man (which, in many ways, i think he is) there seems to be a part of him that is kind of itchy and in need of excitement and that he put that need in front of both his religion and his family ... but then he uses his religion to justify his decisions.
I don't think he's a bad guy ... just naive, misguided and now seemingly overwhelmed and bewildered by the situation that he's created.
I was watching his face last night in some of the difficult situations and i think he's going to have a very hard time dealing with the consequences of his actions.
But if he can be humble and recognize that he's made a huge mistake and head back to the sanctuary of Utah, he (and they) may be o.k. although they've definitely lost their innocence.
That's what's kind of sad too ... they were a somewhat innocent and sheltered group and now we get to watch how this insane culture we live in can be so destructive.

And if he went on t.v. to "out" his polygamist lifestyle so that other polygamist's don't have to hide then he should have had the courage to stay in Utah.
He made a bold move to change people's minds but then bolted when he was overcome with fear ... and at his families expense.

Wow, so many thoughts after last night's.

First I didn't understand why they moved from Utah in the first place but after reading this thread its clearer to me.

Why Las Vegas of all places? Seems like the last place to go if you're remotely religious.

4 houses?? Not at all economical. I"m assuming they're all rentals? That is a lot of money to blow on rent when no one is working.

Why doesn't anyone hav a job? I'd never move without having a job to go to.

I felt really bad for the people not adjusting to the move well. Splitting the family up between homes must be rough on the smaller kids and I could see how the teens would be unhappy. Leaving your friends and social group during the most pivotal social time of your life is rough. I felt bad for Janelle who is career-oriented and had to leave that behind.

I also found it interesting for the mothers who have their own houses and said they like it and they private time with Kody. That to me is a crack in the foundation and could get worse. I can imagine the tension, is they combined houses and they lost that.

I can only imagine Robyn's pregnancy being too much else to deal with with everything else and I honestly would not be surprised if there is a breaking point and one of the wives (maybe Meri) leaves at some point. And how is Kody dealing with running between 4 houses?

I cannot imagine. Its just too much And I can see the tensions and jealousies building between the wives in the future.

And if he had to go public then he should have had the courage to stay planted in Utah and face the consequences ... even if that meant going to prison which probably would not have happened.
He's a coward.
I think he would have been supported had the family stayed in Utah.
But now, if my attitude toward them is any indication, they're going to lose the support of many of their viewers.
The family was happy in Utah.
The teenagers were unusually open and attitude free.
Moving them to one of the most decadent places in the country was the wrong move!
So stupid!
He should have taken those 3 flat tires on their way out of Utah as the sign from God that i think, on some level, he knew it was.
The sister wife with the new little baby Truly (can't remember the wife's name) knew, long before they made the move, that leaving Utah was the wrong choice.
I don't mind their lifestyle (i actually appreciate it in many ways) with one exception ... that the husband is the "leader".
Women tend to know best especially when it comes to the children and what's best to maintain the families health.
The younger teenage son (Hunter?) is severely depressed and, at least from what is shown on t.v., the parents aren't taking his condition seriously enough.
I think he's in real trouble.
I know depression from experience and he's deeply depressed and troubled.
The other teens are angry and the seeds of rebellion have been planted.
If you watch the women on the couch with Cody when they're talking to the camera, you can see how divided they've all become.
Feelings toward Robyn have changed.
The faces of the children when she announced that she was pregnant was revealing.
They are not happy.
They've lost their equilibrium and Cody, stubborn and arrogant (and naive i think) man that he is, will probably not budge but if he really cared about his family he'd leave Vegas and leave TLC and head back to Utah and fight the powers that be there that won't let a healthy family thrive even though that family lives differently than others.
So i hold Cody, TLC and the state of Utah responsible for contributing to this family disaster.
The women need to stand up now and, regardless of Cody, take their children back to Utah.
And Utah needs to get off their back and let them be.
If, in any family, the children are well cared for and loved ... well, that's all that matters.
SPECIALLY a town like LAS VEGAS that has so many LDS churches cause theyre so decadent

HAD they stayed in UTAH they would have lived fat, dumb n happy. The state of Utah DOES openly condem plural marriage, while in practice they tend to NOT interfere unless forced to by the media.....

EVERYthing they go thru has been brought on by their thirst for a fast buck

They looked for houses on the same block in the general area but there were none to be had and they needed something fast as the move was sudden and a tad impulsive imo. It was next to impossible to find a house that would accomodate them all - most families are a good deal smaller and need a lot less bedrooms/living space than they would. Re the job situation, they're new to the area and the kids are school age, they cant just leave them and up and find jobs, right now they're all staying home w/ them but if they stay there, Im sure in time some would go to work - it will get complicated as they'll need cars too for various kids sports activities and p/t jobs (can you imagine how expensive car insurance will be for that many teens who will be driving eventually). They are getting paid for the show (and quite nicely, I gather).

i disagree on his naivete--narcissm is more descriptive---and some obvious insecurities in the women accepting this lifestyle

Not quite sure that all these separate homes will work. Sad for the young kids that were used to having all their siblings around.

I'm with you on your version of Cody just "dropping in". I'd have a real problem with that. So, he gets to visit with his kids about every 4 days. I think they were all much better off in the one large home.

I also was annoyed at Robin giving her opinion about the older kids. What experience does she have? Her two kids aren't even close to the teenage years.

If they ARE getting paid, why all the noise about their bills and whining that they can't pay them all?

Vicki

Back to the underinflated pool. I think it was because there wasn't room in the yard to completely inflate it. The pool needed 18 feet and Cody measured the yard at 17 feet. I recall Christine nagging at him "to make it work!" Perhaps that's how he made it work. My only other conclusion was that she didn't want it too deep for the small children and baby.

The only thing over inflated is Cody's ego. The 4 women are pathetic and needy and are so afraid to be without a man they are willing to share one. This may sound mean but, that is the homeliest bunch of kids I've ever seen.

These people are all living in lovely homes with nice furniture and swimming pools and none of them look to me like they are missing any meals. I do not feel sorry for them.

The teenagers are rebelling. There is a world of hurt coming.
