I disagree. It takes zero musical training to be a singer.

Musicians compose and play there own music. Or play and instrument at a high level.

I loved Casey. I was shocked to see Jacob stay.

One very interesting thing always lost about this show, particularly on the judges, but obviously on the voting public. This is a show to pick the person that has the largest commercial audience. Who has the most fans? Who has the best chance of commercial success?

Hint: It ain't Jacob.

It happens every year, although this year isn't nearly as bad as previous years. Lauren, James, and probably Scotty are by far the best trio of singers that will go on. I love Haley, and if she finds competent management to guide her beautiful voice, she'll do great as well. She's just immature and a little gruff, doesn't quite get it.

As for Jacob? I fast forward through him now, even the duets. I can't stand a screamer, and I can't imagine anyone actually buying a song he sings. We'll see. My record on AI is far better than the judges, and my picks are far more popular than the eventual winners. (Not hard to do anymore, as the winners don't sell squat)

Except for Jacob, AI should be proud of this year's crop.

Wrong. One can be trained to sing just as one can be trained to be an instrumentalist...and one can be an instrumentalist (and a talented one) sans training, as well.

As do the singer-songwriter breed if musicians, and no, not all instrumentalists compose and play their own compositions...even paid professional instrumentalists. Symphonic instrumentalists may spend their entire careers playing orchestral masterworks, and never compose a shred, or play their own compositions, and they are no less musicians for it.

Vocal technique comes at varying levels as well. That's why not every shower soloist is a classically trained operatic singer.

Not that it matters, as classically trained singers typically aren't the American Idol set.

Six contestants.

Three were announced as safe.
So, we knew who the three safe ones were.

The remaining three were obviously the bottom three.

He has had some good songs early on but seriously...why is he still there? I will bet he will be in the top 3 and not because he should be!

Jacob is the Sanjaya of this season. Remember how he had the same hatred that Jacob is facing now.
