As always it was a Sony for me. However, Samsung gave Sony a good run for the money.
Thank you. My son bought a 42" Plasma Panasonic for $530. and taxes, which is really cheap. Prices of electronics have really dropped in Canada so I think he got a good deal. I need to look for the same size for my parents. I did consider the Samsung, but my son says the Panasonic got better ratings. I haven't checked out the Sony's but I will. What tipped the scales for you?
IMHO one cannot compare the black & white to color transition with today's TV's to 3D. 3D's success will live or die on depending on it being perceived down the road as a gimmick or not. Remember smell-o-vision?

To be honest I've never found a TV that can beat Sony when compared picture to picture. Some come close , like the Samsung this time, but none can 'beat" a Sony for color TV in my book. That said, I've owned Sony's for over 40 years due simply to the picture. Isn't picture what TV's are all about instead of ratings and bells & whistles?
3-D TV's and their cost right now is the same as Plasma TV's were when they first came out. Initially large Plasma TV's ran upwards of $20,000, now you can get a large decent one for under $500.00. As more and more 3-D's are sold the faster the prices will drop.
The top 3 quality Plasma and LCD TV's are Panasonic, Samsung and Sony. Samsung and Sony plasma picture screens are equal since both are made by the same mfg, Samsung.

Yes it is....when you live in a climate that is anywhere from -20-40F from December to the end of March, tv gets lots of time. My parents are in their 80's and I try to help them out as much as I can. Thank you for your reply, TW

Ah yes, I could see it now, 3D High Def Hockey. Now that would be interesting for sure.
As with anything else , I will wait until 3D TV drops in price by 50% and you don't need 3D glasses to watch and then and ONLY then would I consider it .
