It's been awhile so I don't remember all the minutae but I always thought it was weird that the ladies barely ever mentioned their family members (other than the episode where Miranda's mom died)...you saw more of their SOs' mothers, actually. You'd think at least Carrie and Charlotte would've had close family at their weddings...

Yeah, that is weird that they never talked about their family.I just assumed none of them had parents, until Miranda's mother died. It's like they were created from pods.

I also found it weird about the absence of family on the show. I know Miranda is the only one who really had any storyline involving family. Before the "Motherboard" episode, I recall a couple mentions of Miranda's family.

I am really surprised that Charlotte's family (parents) was absent from the series. Charlotte seems like the type of person who would be close to her family. We know she is from CT and it is not that far to travel from NYC. It really looks like they would have at least had characters for her weddings and in the movie with the birth of Rose. I remember an episode with Charlotte's brother, but she really seems like the type who would have stayed close with her parents.

Charlotte had a brother that Samantha slept with, didn't she? And Miranda went to her mother's funeral.

It is weird that none of them seemed to have family that they were close to. It's a TV peeve of mine where, say, in a workplace show the coworkers are the ones to come to a characters wedding or visit them in the hospital, as if they have no friends and family other than at work.

Right, the "Motherboard" episode was Miranda's mom's funeral...I was talking about prior to that. Yes, I remember the episode w/Charlotte's brother, but I would think Charlotte's parents would have gotten some camera time in some of her "big life events".

The episode that seems to "cause problems" is "Hot Child in the City".

In that episode towards the end Carrie, Miranda, and Samantha were smoking the pot.

In the "Post it" episode, Miranda says the last time she smoked pot was when she wore her skinny jeans circa 1985.

Also, while with Wade, Carrie said the song reminded her of taking her parents' Oldsmobile.

In the "Vogue" episode, she said her father LEFT her and her mom when she was very young...(im thinking 3?).

Another issue is in Season 3 about Charlotte and Trey....

At the end of episode, Trey told Charlotte he loved her. They said Charlotte got what she wanted, and Trey got something else (that would require him to be able to do something that his inability to do that was an entire story line).

Before the wedding, and after Trey had the "problem"....and Charlotte was surprised and mystified. They glossed over the fact he did NOT have the problem in a previous episode.

Anybody else have interesting points/observations? Yes I am a total SATC nerd and I am over analyzing this stuff. But I have SATC on my mind right now.
You must be watching episodes on E! Miranda wasn't smoking pot, it was just Samantha and Carrie. Samantha got a phone call from Smith, leaving the joint w/Carrie, and that's when the cop pulled up. Earlier in the episode, Miranda said that she wasn't able to get into her skinny jeans since 85 after a bough w/mono.

Re: Charlotte and Trey. Charlotte had been holding out the whole time they were dating to try to "save herself" for him. But she went out drinking the nite before the wedding, got a little horny and showed up at Trey's door. That's when she found out about his problem.

No discrepencies if you watch the dvds or episodes on HBO.

Hi, I'm a big fan and have the dvds. I think the show is just about flawless; but the absence of family is definitely a flaw. But the characters were so well drawn, it just might have been too difficult to work in the family in a short episode. I really think the show is amazing.

I don't know about the discrepancies, I never noticed when I was watching. But never saw the episodes back to back to back.

As for family, I think the reason there was never much about the families of the women in the show because it was not about them as a whole character with families, etc, it was about the friendship and dating lives of women. Even in the episode where Miranda's mother dies, it was much more about the bond the 4 women share than it was really about the death of Miranda's mother.

Miranda *said* the last time she smoked pot was in 85 yes, but in "Hot Child in the City", she was in the room with Carrie and Samantha while they were doing it. Correct, Miranda was acting silly but she was not seen with the marijuana in hand. I only assumed she was joining the other two.

RE: Trey and Charlotte...In the episode "The Big Time", it said Charlotte got everything she wanted and Trey got a .... (well it had to do with employment)"

Unless I am mistaken what a ... is, it would require Trey to be "at attention". This is BEFORE the they said the "wind wasn't in Trey's sail".

*We will call the "..." something to do with employment, and not exactly a hand model like on Seinfeld.
