Don't know if this is considered a "variety show", but how about Playboy After Dark? Good entertainers (Sammy Davis, Jr., Grand Funk Railroad, Iron Butterfly for example). Dancers were great (including Hugh's then girlfriend, Barbi Benton).
(I only know this from watching You Tube. Was too young when this was on.)
