Basically MTV morphed into 'Jerry Springer' type programming (marketing) for preteens. I've asked a few teens if they watch MTV and they don't 'its for kids'.
What is funny is that they relentlessy showed previews for it during Teen Mom.
I am glad my kids are still young & I have a few yrs until I have to deal w/ it all.
I don't know what I'd do if I'd have teenagers who wanted to watch it. Actually, I would...I'd call up our cable provider & tell them to block MTV. It can be done. How do I know...b/c my parents did the same thing & still do not have MTV in their home...There is truly no need for it on television.
I've heard the UK version is highly popular & is even more raunchier.
Not sure why our youth needs to watch & try to comprehend these sorts of shows.

Still confused as to why they still call it "MTV" Music television. No music going on there, just a bunch of crap shows. Bring back the music and maybe we will watch it more.
MTV doesn't stand for Music Television anymore it's just MTV, same as BET and VH1. None of them show music on their basic channels like they used to; you'd have to watch VH1 Soul, MTV2, or BET Jazz if you want to see music videos.
It's only a matter of time before all the complaints about the show cause the ratings to triple.
Anyone from the UK wants to weigh in about how Skins affects teens across the pond? Are they engaging in Sodom & Gommorah (sp? ) type activities after taking in the show?
They were before. UK teens seem to be a lot with drinking and smoking worse than their US counterparts, and they are far less religious than US teens, perhaps a majority of them atheist / agnostic. This show didn't change them, as they were already bad enough!
I watched the first episode of it. I was a bit taken aback at how graphic some of the language was, and the general plot was filled with blatant immorality. It reminded me of a teeny Sopranos in that it did not really glorify the students' actions, nor did it demonize them: it was left up to the viewer to decide. That might work with grown adults, but younger people, especially the pre-teens that might watch this show, are still forming their conscience and need guidance. This program definitely doesn't give it.
Awful, awful awful! I watched the first 3 minutes of it and I was not impressed! The previews had me cringing already but I just had to see what the fuss was about. I for one, am very upset that I wasted three mnutes of my life on this show!!
I don't understand all the promoting of "steamy" shows. For goodness sakes, if this is what some people really want to see, why not just go rent a couple of XXX-rated videos and just cut right to the chase and be done with it, minus the bad acting and phoney dramatics.
As far as why doesn't MTV play music anymore? What music?
