Ditto! I have re-watched all of the seasons and eps--except for that one. I even know that it's the 'Maidenform' ep so that I know to avoid it and won't make the mistake of watching it again. It's too upsetting. I only hope that Chauncy found a better master and home. I think that was the pivotal moment in the show when viewers knew exactly what kind of character Duck was

The one thing I wasn't happy about in last Sunday's ep was that Don didn't knock Duck out; I would have stood up in my living room and cheered, especially given that Duck called Peggy a ***** right after he spent the entire ep talking about how he needs her and how she was the only person who ever made him feel good about himself and how they'd been 'in love'

Yeah...that was absolutely horrible. Even if you are drunk, you don't leave your "best friend" like that.

I see the show ending with Peggy at the top of her profession. Maybe she'll have a lover who's a famous artist or something -- but she doesn't need a husband. I'd like to see it ending with her starting her own agency ... with the National Organization for Women as her first non-profit client. And her buying a weekend house in The Hamptons.

Love child? Is that what you'd call it? I always thought a love child was result of an intimate relationship between individuals who were in love but not married to each other. I think Peggy's and Pete's child was more of a "sex child."

I am glad Peggy realizes that marriage and the traditional female role doesn't feel right to her. I am sure there were many women back then who felt the same but gave into the societal peer pressure, only to be stuck in bad marriages or end up very miserable. Even when Peggy was pregnant, she was so disconnected from the biological aspect of it. She didn't know she was, and she felt no sort of bond while carrying the child, nor any while giving birth. She knew she probably wouldn't make a decent mother, and why repeat the sins of her mother? Sometimes a bad childhood or rotten parent is enough to make you not want to travel that road yourself. I really admire Peggy. She's plowing the road before the women's lib movement.

Duck---argh. Gosh, he is my least favorite character. Well, he is tied with Betty! I didn't used to like Lane until he got involved in the formation of the new company. I also think the writers gave his character a bit more attention in development. Now I really like him. I love Roger's lines, but I can see he is starting to spiral in his own way.

I know! That was a jaw-dropper.
He mentions the scene in the interview I posted upthread.

I do tend to think that Peggy is the kind of woman who would try to have it all.
But one thing I learned a long time ago is that there is no Superwoman.
Sooner or later, something has to give--this leaves plenty of room for subplot complications.
I can see Pete somehow spilling the beans about the baby Peggy had.

I don't know. I think if he was going to say anything, he would have said it when he and Trudy were having trouble conceiving. There were heated words between them at one point, and Pete knew he could have a child since he'd already done it.

Yes, I remember that.
And I also remember the way Peggy washed her hands of Pete, just became finished with him.
I still think he could spill at some point, perhaps even inadvertently, or for the power (however misguided) it could bring him.
But who knows. I'm just speculating.
With Mad Men, I never know *anything* for sure.

I like that, too, but there's one thing that bothers me. It seems like she's really pretty condescending towards the "girls." I mean, she was one of them. She's moved up and that's nice, but I don't know why she has to take on the attitude that she's better than the "girls" who are just secretaries.

I know that as a woman who has been in the work force over forty years, I have had only one female boss I could stand. (My current boss is a woman and I really, really like her.) Most of them seemed to think they had something to prove and that the way to do it was to try to act like a chauvinistic man. That just does not go over with me, and I get the feeling that Peggy would be like that if given the right opportunity. She's extremely talented. She doesn't need to treat the "girls" like they're beneath her. Am I the only one who has noticed this?
