I'm under the impression that 'recurring' means the actor/actress works when tptb have story or use/desire/need for that actor&character. There's no contract involved right? So if there's no contract doesn't 'recurring' make the arangement an "at will" arangement? The show can decide, without notice,to not call on the actor/actress anymore in the future right?Converseley, the actor/actress can choose not to return to that show for whatever reason without notice right?Since there's no contract involved the performer who's involved with in a recurring set up can choose to take another job on another show(prime time or daytime)without informing or getting 'permission' from the higher ups at the show he/she is on 'recurring' status with? It seems to me recurring means at will therefore neither side is under any obligation at all.
Am I wrong?
Help me out here someone.
Thanks.
Your assumption is absolutely correct. In fact, many formerly contract actors are choosing to transfer to recurring rather than lose their jobs with the terrible budget cuts soaps are enduring.
Thanks to you both!
Jukesgrrl you know I've heard that many actors are opting for recurring. I can't blame them a bit.A 'recurring' job is better than no job at all.Especially in these economic times
Bs,I'd seen the definition on Wiki but wanted to make sure I wasn't misinterpretting what I was reading lol.
Thanks again you two.
Are daytime soaps even on TV anymore? I thought most of them had been cancelled.
All My Children and One Life to Live will be going off the air within the next few months. That will leave General Hospital, Days of Our Lives, The Bold & the Beautiful and The Young & the Restless.
I did hear AMC and OLTL will be online afterwards though.

Correct! All My Children will end it's ABC run on September 23,2011 and will debut, first run episodes, online on September 26,2011. It'll be the first soap to air first run episodes online. OLTL will end it's ABC television run on January 20,2011&will beging airing first run internet episodes on January 23,2011.
If you all know of anyone who's a fan of AMC and/or OLTL pass the news along to them.
ITA with the poster who about evening soaps.I'd love to have more primetime soaps reminiscent of the greats(Dallas,Dynasty,Knot Landing, etc).

Wasn't Passions continue online after NBC cancelled it? How long did that last (or is it still running?)
I can't see Susan Lucci acting in an online TV show, regardless its AMC or not.
Passions was picked up on DirecTV after it was cancelled by NBC.AMC&OLTL will be the first daytime soaps to transition from broadcast television to first run episodes made for the internet.
