This is basically what happens in the books, people are delegated jobs based on experence and skills and you see man and woman working together for one over all goal....survival.

That makes total sense, that's what I would expect, maybe I'm weird, but a part of watching this show for me is thinking about what that world would be like, and what I would be like in it. Currently, in the TV show, this is one major thing that doesn't add up for me. I know who I am, and how I respond during crisis, of which I've had some in my life, and I don't see myself reflected in any of the females on the show, AND I'm forced to watch pathetic, stupid females like Lori tell Andrea to let the men protect them, that's annoying!

The writers must know that woman are watching, and we want to see more interesting female characters, this complaint is all over the internet, it's not just me. It's almost like the writers think that the women who watch this show have "knight in shining armor fantasies" and will be content watching Rick save all the little ladies, come on, even teenagers these days are reading the "Hunger Games" where the girl kick's ass with a bow, does everything to protect her family, and gets the guy. I know new characters will be added, I hope they don't continue watering them down, or they will lose viewers like me.

Yeah so do I, but I'm a black man. So unless T-Dog dies, there can apparantly be only one token. And I'd have to change my name to something more "street" - like L-Train or Ray-Ray or Tron 3000. My education, training, vocabulary would apparently have to go out the window. Or maybe I could be a Latino janitor with a heart of gold who just ACTS like a thug...

Oh well.

Lori's little rant was embarrassing, but it was a great setup for drama and tension between the two. Maybe she senses Andrea getting closer to Shane and is a bit jealous? By putting her on dishes and drawls duty with the other hens Lori might have a better chance of keeping Andrea from sneaking off to get freaky with Shane.

Fair enough, I know that I'm spoiled in getting to see myself represented so often on TV. In this case I'm not saying I need an exact replica of me, I'm not THAT self involved, lol. I'd be happy with a strong black, or Latina woman coming in, and showing these women that they need to take care of themselves, not latch onto Rick (or Shane) like he's superman come back from the dead to save them. I hear it's possible I may get that wish soon, I hope so.

It is ridiculous that there aren't more black people around considering the racial make up of Atlanta. There was the man, and his son from season 1 who could still come back, they were fan favorites. I've heard them coming back hasn't been ruled out. I'd love to find out what experiences they have been through in their journey. That could make for some great stories to see people who went on a different path, they could create a whole other world with them.

Lori has a lot of devious stuff going on under that perfect mother/wife persona, jealousy towards Andrea, and personal motives wouldn't surprise me at all.

I'm waiting for another black female to pop into the show after Jacqui went up in smoke. It's been noted how strange it is that there aren't more blacks on the show considering it takes place in the Atlanta area. I read somewhere where someone equated it to Friends, a show that takes place in a version of NYC where the only minority is Aisha Tyler

I'd love to see the father and son from Season 1 come back too, but I'm worried it won't happen. Time on the show isn't going by that fast; meanwhile, it's been 2.5+ years since those first couple of episodes were filmed. We're going to have us a "Walt situation" (LOST fans know what I'm talking about) where that boy is going to obviously shoot up once puberty hits and it's going to be harder to believe that only a couple of months have passed. Of course, they could always recast him...

There is a strong black female character in the graphic novels, there is a lot of talk that she will show up, I hope so. Lori will probably tell her to do laundry like a good girl. As far as the man and son, that's true about the son's aging issues, but like you said they could recast, it's been so long since we last saw him, it wouldn't be shocking to see a different actor in the part.

I was thinking I should probably give Andrea more credit, she does seem to be over much of her mental distress, and she had just lost her sister so some emotional issues are normal, sometimes I forget how short the timeline is. She's doing what I want the other women to do which is take control of their own protection, not wait for a man to save them. She did tell Lori off, and tell her that keeping watch against those killing machines matters more than the freakin laundry. Lori's stability idea is misguided IMO, it can only be a temporary illusion of stability, bad things are going to keep happening, the walkers will come, and people won't be properly prepared if they are hiding from reality in Lori's 1950s world.

What people need to mentally survive in a world like that is a sense of power, and purpose. They need to feel they can fight back, and have a chance at life, putting all of their protection in one "leader's" hands leaves them feeling weak and helpless, pretending nothings changed while folding laundry, or dusting collectables isn't going to help them. When Beth was losing it, they probably should have put her in the car, found a couple of walkers, and made her shoot one. The best cure for depression is action, and shooting a gun helps too.

I liked those two characters so much. They were good folks and their house was the first place Rick found that was relatively safe. I'm real big on finding a safe place. That's one reason I am ready for the group to leave the farm before the hoard shows up. The other reason is that it is becoming boring. Move it out, people!
