The new schedule for Antenna TV was released for April and I saw that the show Maude with Bea Arthur has been removed while All in the Family continues to do well on the channel. Maude has a long history of doing poorly in syndication while it's parent show has done well on all channels. It's the same on DVD, All in the Family did well in sales while the 1st season of Maude did poorly in DVD sales.
I wonder why that is when both shows started in the early 70's?
Bea Arthurs syndication of "Golden Girls" has done well. Personally, I didn't like the show "Maude".
"All in the Family" is iconic. Was a first in televisions humorus portrayal of a bigoted patriarch during the feminist movement when family dynamics were changing.

My guess...Archie (Caroll O'Connor) was meant to bigotted, hard-nose male. Maude (Bea Arthur) should't have been more manly than Archie. Lack of estrogen for Bea Arthur does Maude in.
Personally, I liked the Maude character. However, I suspect a lot of men didn't like her because she was a self-assured feminist. She could be very abrasive but I thought she was funny.
I loved the Maude character. I watched it back in the day and loved it.
But now when I see an episode or two, I just find it cheesy and all they do is yell at each other.
I can't get into it anymore.
I hated All in the Family, then and now.
Loved Golden Girls, but now also, a little cheesy, but I can watch it more than Maude

So the YELLING wasn't a issue for you at the time it premiered because it was something you never saw on TV before?
The number one reason, IMO, is that AITF had a cast that could act circles (if that is possible) around the cast on Maude.
Another reason, though, is that Maude just seemed like a heartless harpy. Even as much as Arch was a jerk, they did show bits and pieces of his softer side every now and again. Maude just seemed like a shrew.
