Why are you doing that? What purpose does any such analysis serve?
If you want to watch reruns why not get a DVR so you can record those which are shown at times inconvenient for your direct viewing? Problem solved.
The job search must not be as intense as we've been led to believe.
To the original question:
The Jeffersons SUCKED. It sucked then and it sucks now. As a Black man I would think that you would find George Jefferson insulting, from his mannerisms to his banty rooster behavior.
I don't think this is all that deep. Good Times and Sanford & Sons have been consistently seen in syndication. The Jeffersons, for whatever reason, have not. I've seen episodes of the former two in the past 3 months, I haven't seen the latter in years.
It's easy to forget about old TV shows if you are not reminded they exist. It also helps to come across an episode or two, laugh, and remember why you used to like it in the first place.
Yeah, but they don't run at a great time and I've seen the other 2 much more frequently. I don't remember the last time I was flipping channels and came across the Jeffersons. But I've stumbled upon the other 2 on various channels over the years. Plus, TVOne, Centric and/or BET have carried the other 2, so they were way more likely to be seen by an African American audience that way, and that's probably whose most likely to buy it.
I don't think I've ever seen any widespread hatred of the Jeffersons or anything like that. I really think the target audience just doesn't see it enough.
Maybe Jeffersons is less likeable because it doesn't appeal to a wider audience. Maybe it's seen as unrealistic by everyone, regardless of color. How many of us can afford to live on the East Side of NYC? How many of us live in a penthouse?
I think the plots were limited because everyone on the show was an adult. After awhile how many plots can you have about Weezie getting annoyed at George or Mama Jefferson or Mr. Bentley acting like a bad British stereotype?
In Good Times, What's Happening, you have families, so there is an appeal to moms, dads, teens, kids. There are more chances for storylines that more people can relate to.
Actually, I liked shows better without the kids, The Flintstiones, I love Lucy ( Little Ricky wasn't really a star on it) The Honeymooners.
I find the kids annoying.....
Good Times, was better but after a while it got annoying. I hate the black whit thing, they always made the white pople look stupid.
......and for heaveans sake, why couldn't Florida ever keep the living room windows shades at the same height, they were always un-even....one up, one down, one up...that used to drive me crazy......
Mr Bentley character was stupid. They needed a better cast of neighbors.
I hate Redd Foxx, hated his show, the set I couldn't even stand to look at....
"Whats happening" was good, Dee was the greatest. The "re-run" character was a little dumb, but never the less the show made me laugh.
I always thought the Jeffersons was more racist in their stereotyping and the characters just weren't as funny. I liked Good Times and Whats Happenin'. Wasnt a fan of Redd Foxx and S&S, felt it was a black version of AITF which I didnt like. (But my folks thought was great).
