I just started watching this show the other day and I can't believe how unbelievably stupid the characters on the show are, is this how most modern American youth are? If it's so, it explains the reason why I don't seem to have a lot of luck finding the right one, I guess it's better to be single than be with a snooki wannabe.
You don't really believe reality shows, do you? It's all scripted, there is no reality involved. And no, this asinine show is not representative of American youth. It bears NO resemblance to teenagers in California, for instance, or the Southern states. Or anywhere outside this miniscule pocket in NJ.
The reason Jersey Shore is so popular is that most people tune in to see people and behavior unlike anything they've ever seen before. It's not unlike going to the zoo.
Yep. It's representative of modern youth just like it's representative of Italians.
I wanted to actually get a perspective from Italian-Americans too about this, whether they considered this show to be a representative of their lifestyles or whether it's actually demeaning to them.
I met an Italian-American who said that it projected a bad image of all the Italian-Americans, that's why I wanted to check out the show.

Any thoughts/opinions on this?
Absolutely not. In Louisville, most youth are working their a^&*s to the bone to put food on the table. In DC, youth are too busy trying to advance in their careers to carry on like those in Jersey Shore.

Wikipedia answers all your questions. Do you really believe ANY community will consider a stupid reality show as a representative of their lifestyles?
sure some youths emulate the style and lingo as i have seen walking around. But many youths i know are working and going to school and not attrmpting to be "The situation" regardless of them being fans of the show or not.
They are getting a bit old for the behavior as it is on that show. Its days are numbered. No one wants it to get to the point where they are 40 something and still spiking the sides of there hair and fist pumping and striking out hitting on college gals. Me personally thinks they represent trash culture regardless of thier nationality.
