If the people who have halls to rent turn down good money by rejecting these folks, I seriously doubt if their foolishness is an act. If anything, they are pretending they are more decent than they really are. They keep saying, throughout the show that their young girls are really virgins and that they are discriminated against, while the same show kinda tells you that the opposite is going on.

Watching it last nite, I too had to wonder about how they have the money to do what they are doing. It occurred to me that as far as the over the top crazy dresses (seriously who goes and gets full on wedding attire for thanksgiving??) maybe tv gods are suggesting that they get what they want and it will be paid for as part of the payment to the ahem stars of the tv show.... I think there is a lot more of thatwith these shows. lots of advertising comps etc for story line embellishment.

Yeah. They are not too clear on how the money is made. They also don't mention tussles with police too much, except that they are noisy, argumentative and disruptive.
We have at least seen two shows on outside women marrying into one of these clans. Do outside men ever marry them?
We should see instances in which the gypsies marry out, as well. I get the impression that they do not stress education much for either sex, so perhaps they would not do too well on the outside.
So, the regular gypsies are supposed to be of Indian descent (they don't really look it, that I can tell) and the Irish travelers are Irish? How insulting to the Irish!

It would be interesting for the "gypsies" on this TLC show to have DNA tests done to see where their ancestry lies. Then the network could live up to its name - The Learning Channel!

I wondered what the Irish Traveler's who live in the mansions do for a living? The boy who got married to the outsider got money and a Rolex from his father. Can you really make that much money paving when you live in a mansion and can afford a Rolex?

Ha-ha. You're asking embarrassing questions.
In many communities you require a police permit to go around the neighborhood peddling. If someone rings your doorbell wanting to put a new roof on, pave a driveway, paint the house, you are supposed to call the cops and ask if they are legit.
I did this with some kids selling magazines. That's a rip off, too. They arrive in a small town by car, ring doorbells for the day, take your money and just leave. You don't know who they are or where they live, etc. They travel all over the country doing this. This is kids, though.

The Romanichals aren't "Indian" per se....
The Romani people have origins in the Indian subcontinent and began migrating westwards from the 11th century. The first groups of Romani people arrived in Great Britain by the end of the 15th century, escaping conflicts in Southeastern Europe (such as the Ottoman conquest of the Balkans).
