There are many different versions of it in many different countries. It wasn't started in the US. It was started in the UK in 1992 and Mark Burnett brought a version here.

Survivor (TV series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

EDIT: To avoid confusion, a British producer came up with the idea but no version made it on to the air until 1997 in Sweden when it was called Expedition Robinson. I believe the show is still on the air, there as well.

Yes, Russell Swan did die that day but he fortunately was revived. I'll never forget that episode.

Such a shame for that young man. Condolences to his family.

I'd bet that he was going to go regardless of if he was on a show or not. Must have an undetected health issue going on. I would even guess that help was closer by than would have been had it occurred when he wasn't participating with the show.

Still a shame when anyone that young goes.

Looks like Phillip doesn't do very well in tonights' challenge. You have to be in excellent shape to do well in this one, which looks familiar to another challenge in a past season.

Philip is certainly not a young man. It's amazing his B.S. keeps the others in line.

Man I'm really getting sick of Corrine (already been sick of Phillip) but on the other hand I'm kind of sick of wishy washy Dawn too. I thought she wasn't going to play that game this time around?

I call bunk on
Spoiler
Phillip saying he threw that challenge to get rid of Julia.

I have no use for Dawn now. I thought she was smarter than she turned out to be.
Phillip is so full of BS that he can barely breathe. He has the stamina of someone with emphysema.

Don't hold back Pippy, tell us what you really think.

Dawn playing the playground game of running and telling. I think Corrine missed an opportunity to take out Philip. Get the fans to vote with her, while the rest of the favs split their votes. But no, go ahead and vote with Philip.

Yeah Pip tends to hold back a bit on what she really means. I am wondering if the favs are trying to go into the merge like Russell did with a strong 4 they stuck together and voted most of the others off. But I can't see Corrine & Phillip sticking with that plan much longer. They both screwed up not getting rid of one or the other of them.

Dawn should be ashamed how she played tonight.
