I watch a lot of PBS too and they're raising funds right now too. I think a lot of the reason why is because, PBS is on an academic fiscal calendar and June 30th is the end of their fiscal year (at least it is here in North Carolina). I suspect they're trying to reach a goal by year's end in order to make their budgets.
Mark my words ... come first part of July you'll only moderately here about fundraising.
because it's impossible to live in a modern, complex society of 330 Million people and agree on where every single cent of government money goes. I guarantee the government spends money on all kinds of stuff you think is just great that others don't.
You'll just have to suck it up and be mature about it.
Exactly. I don't have kids, yet I pay for public schools. We don't get to pick and choose where our tax money goes.
I don't have a problem with this teeny, tiny bit of tax money going to public broadcasting. I think it is well worth the cost (~$1/year/taxpayer) to make sure kids can watch Sesame Street.
Heck yeah! That's better than a lot of the crap they get on Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, or even Disney.
I use to donate a certain amount every month, until I discovered that they sell my personal information. I constantly get advertisements in the mail, in my e-mail and on my phone. I would like to know what gave them the right to do this. They have gotten the last of any donation from me.
They need the money. What else do you want them to do?
Admit that their usefulness has run it's course and shut down or go the ad supported route. There was a time when PBS was a community service because there were limited broadcast options. Now there are 50+ cable channels and 20+ broadcast channels in every market PBS is in.
PBS is the only tv show worth watching. They can do whatever it takes to remain on the air. If PBS ever goes off so will my tv.
Yeah they are good......
