I donate because their cooking shows are better than those on cable. I quit cable when Food Network became obsessed with Guy Fieddi, Chopped, Next FN Star, etc. Now I watch Martha Bakes, three different series from Jacques Pepin, of whom I've been an enthusiastic fan since 1979, and America's Test Kitchen, where I'm enjoying new chef Dan Souza in particular.

Not all PBS stations show the same things. There was a thread a while back about The Great British Baking show (or close), but Tucson's PBS didn't show it. The thread posters said it came on after Downton Abbey, but not here. I checked the listings, and even called them, but they didn't buy the package. I was really looking forward to watching it. Instead, they do a lot of "The Desert Speaks", and other regionalized programming. I watch those shows, and PBS News Hour as well as other shows, so I don't mind the fund raising, and I do contribute.

I love that show. You can also watch it on Netflix.

I respect the format of PBS and its dynamic for informative and rated "G" shows.

The Fundraising is not too burdensome. I give anonymously. A nice money order with Keep up the wonderful programs!

Plus our tv allows mute when they are giving the five minute spiel to donate. It's my commercial break to grab the snacks

It's what they have to do to continue on, so I don't mind...much! There are so many excellent shows and documentaries they bring us...don't know what I'd do without them. My mind seems to need the information and entertainment.

PBS? Known locally as "the begging channel"?

Donate! Donate lots! Give us your credit card number. Give us your car, give us your boat. Put us in your will. Get your boss to donate. Give us everything you own right now. Don't wait to die, give it to us now and we will give you an annuity.

Month long telethons asking for donations at least 3 times a year.

That PBS?

I'd donate if it would shut them up, but I'm afraid it would just make them target me for additional begging.
