I;m trying to make sense of the extra $9.95 fee that Comcast charges for DVR service when I can already see my favorite shows I missed on Demand. Isn't it pretty much the same thing which is being able to watch the show without a lot of commercials with the option of rewinding a funny scene?

Or does DVR offer something I am unaware of?

On Demand has a couple disadvantages.

1. On some shows you can't fast forward commercials. Some have less commercials, though.
2. Some On Demand shows don't show up until a week later. Justified for instance.
3. Not every single show is available on demand.

The fast forward thing to me is minor because I can just come on C-D why the commercials are playing

Like bs said, not all shows are available "on demand". With a DVR you can record any show you want to watch later. The $5 a month I pay for the DVR feature is well worth it IMO.

Doesnt Comcast OnDemand use your internet connection and if so doesnt Comcast cap internet usage? If so you could eat up your bandwidth cap pretty quickly, depending on how much you watch.

I know with Directv if I want to watch say "Celebrity Apprentice" (just using it as an example. dont need commentary on the state of realty tv) OnDemand I have to wait until Thursday for Sunday's episode to be available.

There are advantages to both, but for me I want to watch a show when I want to watch it. If I have recorded it, I can watch it 5 mins or 5 years after it aired as long as I havent deleted it. OnDemand recordings have expiration dates in many cases so it might be here this week but gone next week.

Yeah I saw today when I watch Thursday's episode of the Office, the expiration is before the next new episode

I DVR all my shows~~probably 15 or more a week, even if I'm watching them as they record. That's so I can keep them to watch over summer, or at least the season finales so when August rolls around, I'm up to speed and excited about the new seasons. BUT......on Directv, unless you subscribe to Genie, you can only record two shows at a time. So, if I want to see Hell's Kitchen, NCIS and Splash on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., I can't. I have to decide which two to record, and I have to watch one of the ones I'm recording. I can't record/watch 3 shows at a time. So on certain days, I have a conflict...I'm not sure how many shows you can record/watch at once on Comcast, but upgrading to Genie (or whatever it's called) on Directv is the only way to record three shows at once.

Not necessarily...

Genie can record 5 shows at once (like you mentioned) but you can have a DVR on each tv (every tv is going to have a receiver anyway). In my set up for example I have 3 DVRs and 2 receivers. I can record 6 shows at once (2 per DVR) and watch them from any location in the house.
