American Idol never was a talent competetion, it's a popularity contest.

Who cares? Do they have to sign a waiver of sexuality prior to competing? No, I'm thinking not.

Non issue.

Gender preference shouldn't make any difference. However, people who CAN'T sing should be banned.

The issue isn't about what the rules are now on the show.

It's about what people feel about idolizing gay people as "American Idols".

Below is the post from the American Idol 2013 thread that started this conversation:

I don't think anyone's 'idol' should be gay, especially America's Idol.

To (try using too) many things that are worth watching to waste one's time with American Idol. I might add: if Adam Lambert would have won, I would have stopped watching then. I don't think anyone's 'idol' should be gay, especially America's Idol. Heaven forbid that the show makes more gay people

Grammar must not be his/her forte too

I wanted to see how others felt on the subject, so I posted the poll.

For those who don't think gays should be American Idols, I am curious why you feel this way?

Elton John and Freddy Mercury are two of my favorite singers of all time, and what they do/did in their private lives is no business of mine. Their music is the only thing I care about.
