I didn't find Brian so bad. I really liked James, though. It's too bad he was in way over his head. And Elaine was such a sweet, nice lady! Does anyone know if this show had good ratings? I wonder if it might become a regular? I love the atmosphere of comraderie and that it's not cutthroat competition, but rather fun competition. I also love Jeff Foxworthy as a host. His humor and his down to earth persona make the show fun to watch.
Brian really surprised me this week, both with his baking and his genuinely helping James when he messed up his shoe tower. He deserved to win the coveted title of Star Baker this week.
It was shocking to see both James and Elaine sabotage themselves in the end. They were such strong bakers I thought for sure they'd make it to the end.
I think (and hope) Darlene wins. But Francine is a good egg, too. See what I did there?
This is a great show. It's nice to see normal people compete without being catty or bitchy about it.
I think this show may have been Jeff Foxworthy's idea which is why he's the host.
Brian show topper, final bake wasn't perfect; Darlene was perfection in the first two bakes. Her donuts were perfect and for the first time frying them-Amazing !
For Brian, was thoughtful to help James with his choux.

Does second, third place get any prize?
I agree, Darlene has been more consistent. Brian had some huge failures along the way, including changing the technical recipe for mousse which was a huge flop. Unfortunately, the last 2 shows he did well and apparently the judges have short memories.
I'd like to know if the other bakers get a prize, also. I'm pretty sure they all get a stipend for each week they remain on the show, but I have no idea how much.
Call me cynical, but James was as good as out of the competition when Brian helped him. I wonder if Brian would have helped someone who still had a chance to win it all, like Darlene or Elaine?

I'd be surprised, if that was the only time that any of the bakers helped someone. Brain did better the last couple of shows, but overall from beginning to end, I don't think so.
I hope Darlene is still given a cookbook offer by somebody. The fact that she made perfect Boston creme donuts without ever having fried a doughnut before proves she has amazing instincts for baking.
So, has this show made anyone here try to be more adventurous bakers? Have you tried one of the recipes from the show, or put your own spin on one of the challenges as though you were a contestant?
I'd love to but it's been so hot here I can't turn the oven on. Too bad this didn't air over the winter. But I've been thinking about trying some petits fours if I can find a recipe for the cake part that looks good.
I wish francine had won . she was so down to earth and the judges really liked her food throughout so I dont know how Brian won ....he was bad right up until the last two shows ...
