MTV

Fox News

Home and Garden channel.

Seen a lot of votes for the GSN and TruTV up there. Really have a couple shows on those channels I watch every day. Dog eat Dog & Chain reaction on GSN, Worlds dumbest on TruTV. Haven't watched MTV in about 6 years, haven't watched those other 4 channels at all, so really if they took them out tomorrow I would hardly notice anyway.

How about asking them to remove your telephone number from their survey database instead?

Removing channels without also lowering the price doesn't accomplish much. Most current manufacture TV can hide TV channels you'd rather not see so involving the cable companies seems like an answer to a problem that doesn't exist.

The television industry has the experience of the music industry to learn from, so they're unlikely to make the same mistakes. That'll be good for them, and good for television quality, but bad for consumers.

ALL COMMERCIAL CHANNELS

When cable first started pushing their service they touted NOT broadcasting commercials on every channel. And since you were paying for service they had no need to inundate you with advertisements all day. But we seem to have forgotten that as we are now paying for Cable and Satellite TV services where we still get inundated with commercials every 5 minutes. Then they have the nerve to charge extra for the non-commercial channels like they are doing us a favor by providing the channels.

Not "a favor" - rather that charge for providing us "a service". There is a cost to stringing coax or fiber all over a neighborhood, maintaining head-ends, satellite transmission and reception facilities, etc. More importantly, there is a value to the customer for superior, reliable reception of broadcast channels, etc. Our society has made a qualitative decision that cable television provision of broadcast channels is no longer a necessity of life, and therefore wherever there is more than one way to receive broadcast channels, then such competition means that such services are subject to commercial marketplace's supply-and-demand equation - meaning it is priced based on its value to the average customer, as the average customer expresses that value through the normal means such things are handled within the commercial marketplace, i.e., the supplier offers and the buyers decide whether to accept or decline such offers.

It does no good to look at the matter as some kind of personal affront that they're charging for things you think they shouldn't be charging you for, or take as an insult that they're charging what they're charging. It isn't personal - it's business. If you don't find the service to be worth it, live without it.

Only 5? There are probably only about 5 I would keep. How about 5 categories?

All religion channels.
All non-English channels.
All MTV type channels.
All shopping channels.
All Fox news channels.

All the sports channels. None of us watches sports.

Movie channels. We typically watch movies once and that's it.

The talk show channels. The shopping channels. I think that's 5ish....

The majority of their programming is produced for idiots.
How would you know unless you watched them yourself?
