Didn't CSI (Las Vegas) make the news several years ago because female corpse nipple was displayed?

I dunno if it was on UK broadcast teevee but the 2013 British Comedy Awards had multiple F-bombs, 2 utterances of sea-unt and at least 1 middle finger. It was quite entertaining, sounded natural/genuine and Johnny Vegas was the best. Alas there was no nudity. (Could have been when one guy stepped on the train of Miss Britain's dress - how Benny Hill would that have been!)

The first time I saw a topless female on US Broadcast TV was PBS - a Monty Python episode with a topless store clerk. <cough> x decades ago... Did M. Python air on UK broadcast tv - had to have right?

Seems rather illogical that babies are meant to get daily breast contact and then - oh noes!

Having said that, the sex scenes in some mainstream cable programs (Spartacus, Strikeback, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood) would have been considered softcore porn not too long ago.

I'd agree that things would be more balanced if the gore was toned down and the garments lifted..

It's still softcore porn.

If a sex scene advances plot or develops character, it's justified. But Spartacus, Game of Thrones, and True Blood throw in sex scenes just to have some skin on the screen. It's done for shock value and/or titillation. Nothing else. That's porn.

I dont remember it making the news because I didnt watch it at the time but NCIS showed the nipple of a corpse in the episode "Meat Puzzle". Interestingly, it has never been edited out. The USA reruns of the episode still show it.

I think the main problem is that audiences don't act responsible enough for their children's well beings to pay attention to the ratings that are given at the beginning of each show. Someone mentioned upthread that they don't want their kids hearing those words until they understand when it is appropriate to say them. Well then, when a show says that it contains strong language, perhaps you should turn it off or, alternatively, watch it with your child and have a conversation about it.

Same goes for nudity. I don't have a problem with it. Some might. So then pay attention and either don't watch the shows that contain it, or be aware that when you watch that particular show you'll see naked people.

Yes, in fact I remember that very episode. It was pretty quick, on screen for about 3 seconds. I don't recall much controversy about it at the time.

i feel it is perfectly reasonable to show nudity on tv, including broadcast tv. here is why i think this.
i feel seeing softcore, topless, bottoms is innocent nudity doesn't damage someone's personality.
on the other hand, the internet is nothing innocent, only explicit material available online, there is no softcore, innocent type of nudity available online.
put more softcore type of nudity on tv, and anyone looking for nudity can avoid having to see explicit sex which is the only option online.
so parents decide this, do you want your family members seeing brief nudity here and there on a few shows, or do you want your family members online seeing explicit grotesque acts?!

There should be more of it. I prefer it to violence, certainly.

I think it makes sense if it is natural. I mean its strange to see two bodies in bed or people in a bathroom fully covered. But it does not need to be overt or shocking. A little side view conveys the context and keeps the bits covered.

And forget the L shaped covers- I always get a chuckle that everyone else on Earth apparently has interactions involving buck nekkid women and men who never lose their boxers. I don't even use that silly flap for urinations so I can only imagine the feats of navigation involved in actual interaction. And to be honest I think a naked breast is much less lascivious than the implant/push up bra/perma-boob that has gone from porn to main-stream entertainment.

Sometimes it seems like nudity for nudity's sake but other people use it for better comic or realistic extents. I remember when Nip/Tuck was the hot new show and the idea that a man would be vain/naked/confident on TV was new enough to almost set up the story at times. Didn't matter how old/attractive/in shape/spray tanned he was from season to season the fact that the one guy would stroll into the frame nude pretty much established dominance.

I dont know about all cable providers but if you want to pay for it XXX programming can be yours from most cable providers. ,not my cup of tea but sex on tv is just a matter of changing channels if its not to your liking.
