Below is an excerpt from an online People article regarding the stars and pros for this season:

From former child stars to young musicians, the 18th season of Dancing with the Stars is filled with an eclectic mix of competitors. But the most interesting may be the casting of Meryl Davis and Charlie White.

Davis, 27, and White, 26, ruled the rink at last month's Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, winning the gold medal in ice dancing. Now they'll battle in the ballroom – but against each other for the mirror ball trophy. White will dance with Sharna Burgess, while Davis will shimmy with Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Valentin's brother, who is back after taking last season off.

I see DWTS is down to D-listers now. I hope one of the new shows that is watchable is on at the same time.

I see an opportunity for a Colt 45 sponsorship.

Seriously, if the Olympic gold medalist ice dancers can't hang then something is wrong! They should almost be considered ringers (no pun intended).

Billy Dee Williams is known for far more than for the Star Wars film I'll be glad to see what he brings to the ballroom.

All the forums all over have been buzzing about how we'd all be shocked with Derek's partner I'm not. She is athletic and an Olympian he is an excellent choreographer and I say finally he is going to be challenged.

This part of the fans being able to vote to change the pros to other dancers is going to be interesting twist.

Feel bad for Tony getting NeNe Leakes hope she isn't on long. Sad Tristian is back but good to see Henry.

It'll be interesting to see Drew Carey dance. I haven't seen him in a decade or so -- is he still heavy? If there's nothing else on in that time slot, I might tune in just to see him and Danica.

More importantly ... Maks is back (and no Mark Ballas). I might have to start watching again.

Maybe, but it will be most interesting to see how different it is to dance on your feet and in heals over on skates. But they've got the artestry down, and the professionilism. I'll watch it for them. If most of the show is boring stuff I'll do my normal fast forwars...

I wouldn't put them in the league in terms of experience with the disney ringers, but above the ones who have had hit or miss experience.

Still would like to see them compete together...

Mark will be there. He's paired with Candace Cameron. Cute couple.
