I went through a VC Andrews phase in my early teens, but I never read this series. My favorite was the Cutler series. I picked up a copy of Flowers in the Attic at a used bookstore about a year ago. I finally read it over the weekend so I could watch the movie. I enjoyed the book and thought it was somewhat dark and disturbing.
The movie had potential, but the short timeframe and bad acting killed it, in my opinion. It mostly followed the book with a few changes at the end. It just felt flat and didn't do a good job of portraying how disturbing it was and how nasty the grandmother was. It should have been at least a two part series to have any hope of being good.

My daughter and her friends were big V.C. Andrews fans so I told her about the movie. She hadn't seen the original one, but after seeing last night's, she was really disappointed. She remembered the books well, but didn't like the movie. She said it was horribly acted, but also fairly superficial.
She has a 14 year old daughter now, and is appalled I let her read these books at that age! Funny how that works. She'd NEVER let her teen daughter read something that provacative. She would let her read the other big series around that time~~The Babysitters Club.
Parents let their teenage daughters read that book?
My mother would have slapped it out of my hands and burned it, and I was in my mid-20s when it came out. LOL
I hear you!! I was in my late 20's when book came out. Had I been a teen living at home my mother would have confiscated this book as she did when I was in my late teens and she caught me reading The Happy Hooker...lol..can't remember the author

The Happy Hooker title sort of screams "confiscate me." Flowers in the Attic title wouldn't have been on her radar.
I wouldn't stop my teen from reading the book. It's not like she's going to lock herself in an attic and have sex with her brother as soon as she's done reading. LOL
The movie was bad, and not in a fun way. So disappointing.
I brought this back up because I was up late last night and it was playing again, and then after that The sequel, Petals on the Wind came on.
I am watching that now.
I didn't know there were anymore movies. Does anyone know if there were anymore after that?
