Oscars not being tape delayed, vs. Emmys (brothers and sisters, on tv, shows)

OMG... I thought it WAS an impersonator at first!! You are right, she did not seem amused.
Should we start a separate thread for the Bad Cosmetic Surgery people?? Liza would be one,
Goldie Hawn another, and Kim Novak (whom I would not have recognized at all!) would be on my starter list.
Novak seemed disoriented and I had a sense McConaughey was "guiding" her at the end of their presentation... I would like to know someday how some of these presenters are chosen.
Over the last several years the Oscars have been trying to add older celebrities into the show. Maybe they picked her because there are so few left?
I actually enjoyed the Oscar show last night. Ellen's opening was not at all what I anticipated from her, but she got better as the show went on (I thought). I thought the pizza delivery and the selfie with all the celebss were priceless.
Aside from Ellen, I found this to be one of the most enjoyable Oscar shows I have ever watched, and I've been watching a long time.
Matthew won the Oscar. All Right, All Right, All Right. He is weird. Jared Leto won too. Who knew the cutie from the show My So Called Life would be an Oscar winner. His speech was good and the guy still looks the same. Good for them. I can't watch 12 Years a Slave. However, the woman that won was stunning.
I agree with others about 'Why should we be interested in watching celebs pat each other on the back?'
My take on the show last night is that Ellen was extremely rude with her comment to Liza. I also thought it was a female impersonator and was surprised to find out it was her.
The pizza bit? What the H does that have to do with awarding an oscar to anyone? I laughed at Meryl's expression when handed the slice of pizza, but then she was able to thankfully give it away. Who in their right mind, dressed to the 9s, would want to sit in that audience and eat pizza?
Was relieved to see the majority of winners keep their boring 'thank you' speeches to under one minute.
As usual, the show could have been accomplished in just one hour, but by adding all the useless filler stuff it drags on and on.
Wow. Another whine-fest in the TV section. What a shocker.
I don't go out of my way to watch Ellen, but I think she's witty, courageous and gifted. From what I've seen so far, I think she's doing great. She has her own show. She must be doing something right. She's pretty corny most of the time. She is by nature humble, self-deprecating, unprejudiced imo, and quick. If that's not your style, fine. I don't personally give a bleep, but that's fine.
I don't think it's a stretch to say this last seasons selection of movies are nothing to get excited about, the show must go on.
Now about Sally Fields, I thought she looked great. Maybe plastic surg goes ok sometimes. I'm a huge opponent to elective surgery, but I understand the dream to hold on to youth, albeit for vanity's sake. I assume plastic surgery with her because I don't understand how makeup alone can make her almost look like she did 30-some years ago.
Kate Hudson looked nice. Watching the Oscars this morning enables me to become aware of productions I've never heard of, like the short films, etc.
Years ago, I also harbored bad feelings for her. But the way she's resurrected herself and her genuine niceness (both on her show and on other shows, like American Idol) have won my admiration.
That's why I was so surprised to see her being so unkind tonight. Someone said, on another site, that her comments were all scripted and that she had no control of what she said. If so, it still showed poorly on her part that she'd agree to host a show where she had no control over her comments. "Roast shows" are somewhat entertaining because people expect to be made fun of (to some extent), but the Oscars presents itself as the cream-of-the-crop of these kinds of shows and all the mean comments arent appreciated. I suspect that the audience laughs at them because they feel obligated to do so.
And Ellen seemed to be aware that her hosting didnt go over well at all.
Had Liza Minelli looked good, maybe Ellen's comments wouldnt have been so unpleasant. But she didnt and they were.
I thought the pizza skit was clever. Asking for someone to pony up the dough was brilliant.
What else did folks here p&m about? Oh yeah, the most weather-beaten cliche of the night. What are these fine folks supposed to do up there BUT pat each other on the backs? Stab each other in the backs? There's quite enough of that going on as it is. This is a party. How about let em have their fun?
Humanitarianism, nostalgia, rememberance, reverence... so many other good things going on here.

Oh, well let me do something noble, like y'all. I'll step out on the edge of wit and claim I'd be better off watching reality tv or doing the dishes or fixing my car or...
My DW thought Ellen really punched Liza Minnelli below the belt with that crossdresser joke. But then again, it was coming from a woman, who looks and acts just like a man. LOL!
Other than that, she was funny without being too cruel.
