So far so good - I really like this season and where it seems to be going (I haven't read the books).
You should read them, but wait until the series is finished. The only problem now is these characters will be in your mind when you read it, and I wasn’t thrilled with any of them except Claire and Dougal. Jamie is growing on me this season, but he was never the “real” Jamie to me. The actor just seems a little blah to me. He didn’t seem as strong or forceful as the book Jamie. But I do think he’s doing very well as the older Jamie.
I haven't seen the show but I recently finished the first book. I thought the beginning a little slow, but it picked up and I will get the second book in the series
I generally much prefer books to the shows based on them, so I don't know that I will ever watch it.

I enjoy the series, but I read all the books twice first.
I've been pretty happy with the casting, so far, based on what my mind made up while reading. The two that seem "off" to me are Ian and Brianna.
The series Ian just seems more "wimpy" than I remember and it will be interesting to see how he handles the role in what's coming to him in America. I always envisioned Brianna as being bigger. I don't know why. Maybe there was some description in the book that led me to believe that she was taller and more resembled Jaime.

Jamie is described as six and a half feet tall and Brianna is six feet tall in the books. They scrapped the height requirements for the series, which is too bad because they were pretty important in the books.
Young Ian and Roger and Bree are not at all what I pictured, but I like the casting of Ian so far. I was hoping Roger would be better looking because he was supposed to be very handsome in the book. Oh well, i still like the ones they picked for all three.
