I think ideally it is important to have a system that works via app or remote. I don't like the idea of a Chromecast (app only) because I think having a remote option is helpful. What if you have a guest and you aren't there?

Newer systems don't use Infrared to operate the remote. They tend to use WiFi.

We have Apple TV and we don't like the remote at all. It's on our second TV and we don't use it too often. You can watch YouTube videos on Apple TV.

Our TV in the den we have a PS3 to stream Netflix and Amazon Prime. The PS3 does have a better controller than the Apple remote.

I talked with Amazon Prime two weeks ago and was advised they had worked out a deal with Apple TV and should be available. Amazon is not on our Apple TV yet.

Roku 3 is the greatest thing I have ever owned and the remote is the greatest too. You won't be sorry if you choose Roku 3!
