Yes, yes, yes to the OP. I used to love AP when it premiered. Back then, its focus was on domestic animals and wildlife. I used to love Emergency Vets and the Animal Cops series with different venues. The only thing I watch now is My Cat From Hell. When surfing, I inevitably end up seeing glimpses of Sasquatch, gators, snakes, bearded mountain men, hand fishin', and any number of internal parasites , all of which turn my stomach. The last time I tuned in, they were airing a made-for-TV movie. Give me a break.
Their new tagline says it all: Animal Planet: Surprisingly Human. I'll say. What happened to the animals??!
I saw that too. Entire movie must have cost tens of dollars to make! This remaking of TV stations has gotten out of hand. First, MTV led the way, and can anyone tell me why they still have the "M" in MTV anymore? Look at the History channel! Boy has that strayed from the mark. TLC...The Learning Channel??? Not so much any more. Never thought Animal Planet would do that though. So sad.

Animal Planet was the channel I used to base my decision on which package I would be willing to pay for tv viewing. I will be downgrading in the next 30 days or so. Just not worth it anymore.. So sorry to see this channel swirling the drain.
All the basic cable channels have really jumped the shark.
-*M* TV. Music seems to have nothing to do with the channel anymore.
-TLC, Bravo, A&E, etc. All gone. Now it's about having 20 kids, pawning, hillbillies, alligators, etc. Absurd.
They should just rename basic cable, sensationalism.
I wish those channels were more like pbs. Antiques roadshow, rick steves. Those are fine. The problem with cable is they try to put drama into everything. If a cat has a problem with one of its neighbors, cable will try to dramatize it.
Animal Planet should be focusing on high quality national geographic type programming. Maybe some fun shows thrown in.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to wonder "what has happened to Animal Planet?". I sure miss Gator Boys, The Treehouse Guy, Pete Nelson. Animal Planet didn't "jump the Shark", they fell in and The River Monsters ate the whole network!!!!
A LOT of networks are straying far from the programming we once enjoyed… A&E, Bravo, HGTV, the Health channel (now TLC). Animal Planet used to be great -- I watched it all the time when they had Planets Funniest Animals on. I'd watch it again if all they showed was reruns of that… haven't seen it in years.
I agree. I haven't watched AP in years. I used to leave it on for my dog during weekdays when we were away at work. As soon as that "Ani-mail" jingle would start up, she'd run to the TV and go in circles lol!
TLC should now be called the "Outside the Norm People" channel. It's all little people, polygamists, psychics, mega obese, angry brides, religious nuts... and then the cupcake shows. I'll never understand shows about food.
HGTV is only about people looking for houses. Not so much in the "how to" and interior design anymore. I used to watch it all the time, but not much anymore. I can only take so much House Hunters. And what happened to the Gardening shows? They have the shows where they re-do peoples yards, but no actual gardening shows. I liked "Paul James the Gardening Guy" or whatever it was called.
