I never got into Suburgatory that much, but it's caught my eye.
Suburgatory is one of those rare TV series that gets to 57 episodes and is cancelled. Usually once a series passes 50 episodes they will do anything to push it to at least 80 episodes so it can be sold into syndication.
Of course, streaming may give some revenue to shorter TV shows, but it is not likely to be as lucrative.

I firmly believe that "Suburgatory" (a WB TV/Piece of the Pie joint venture) was a casualty of the tense negotiations with ABC and Fox TV. I think the initial plan was to renew "Last Man Standing" and "Suburgatory" and have them air on Fridays. At the 11th hour there was supposedly this negotiation with ABC and 20th Century Fox TV that somehow included the new show "Cristela". Out of that negotation, "Last Man Standing" was renewed and "Cristela" was picked up and suddenly "Suburgatory" was cancelled.

It seems like the strategy for Friday night was to put a lot of shows that had smaller budgets to make up for the smaller audience. Now it seems to be a night where one production company puts up a show, and probably runs at a financial loss. But they are playing for the long term, expecting to make money in the long term on syndication.

I haven't watched much on ABC in years. I used to watch Dancing with the Stars and 20/20, then I dropped Dancing when it got old and tired a couple years ago so now I only tune in for 20/20 occasionally when there's nothing else on. I personally think everything on there is junk.
Castle is an ABC production and is one of the most successful TV series in the world. It's just been picked up for a seventh season.

While I think Castle is dreadful, the very epitome of "junk TV," I couldn't be happier for Joey Buchanan that he's the star of such a successful program.

Had to look that up - apparently he started playing Joey a couple years after I quit watching OLTL.
